Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Group 2 innate lymphoid cells exhibit a dynamic phenotype in allergic airway inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2) are implicated in allergic asthma as an early innate source of the type 2 cytokines IL-5 and IL-13. However, their induction in house dust mite (HDM)-mediated airway inflammation additionally requires T cell ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

An intrinsic role of IL-33 in Treg cell-mediated tumor immunoevasion

open access: yesNature Immunology, 2019
Regulatory T (Treg) cells accumulate into tumors, hindering the success of cancer immunotherapy. Yet, therapeutic targeting of Treg cells shows limited efficacy or leads to autoimmunity.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

INFLAMMASOME NLRP1 DISTINCTIVE FEATURES IN ATOPIC CONDITIONS

open access: yesМедицина в Кузбассе, 2023
The review article focuses on the NLRP1 inflammasome, which was discovered before the others but has been the least investigated. The emergence of the inflammasome in innate immunity container cells is an early event that precedes the development of any ...
