In vivo and in vitro evaluation of betanine mutagenicity.
Information about the mutagenic effect of natural food colors gives scientific support to their use as food additives. Two different forms of beet root colours were tested: form I without nitrate residues and form II with nitrate residues. Mutagenic effects were tested in vitro using the human peripheral blood lymphocyte system and in vivo using the ...

An In Vitro and In Vivo Assessment of the Genotoxic Potential of Maizinol (UP165), a Zea mays Leaf Extract. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Benzoxazinoids are secondary metabolites produced in monocotyledons and some dicotyledons from the Acanthaceae, Ranunculaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Plantaginaceae, and Lamiaceae families. Benzoxazinoids are commonly consumed in bread and cereal products that have been ingested for decades, which supports the safe use of benzoxazinoids as food ...

Oxazepam is mutagenic in vivo in Big Blue(R) transgenic mice [PDF]
Although oxazepam (Serax), a widely used benzodiazepine anxiolytic, does not induce gene mutations in vitro or chromosomal aberrations in vivo, it was found to be a hepatocarcinogen in a 2 year bioassay in B6C3F1 mice. Thus, it was of interest to determine whether this carcinogen is mutagenic in vivo.

In Vivo Mutagenic Effect of Very Low Dose Radiation
Almost all of our knowledge about the mutational effect of radiation has come from high dose studies which are generally not relevant to public exposure. The pKZ1 mouse recombination mutagenesis assay enables study of the mutational effect of very low doses of low LET radiation (μGy to cGy range) in a whole animal model.
