Sterol Biosynthesis Inhibitors: C14 Demethylation (DMIs)

2015
DMIs are a commercially very successful group of systemic fungicides targeting cell membrane integrity by inhibiting C14 demethylation during sterol formation. Regardless of their site-specific mode of action, resistance development evolved in a typical stepwise manner leading to a prolonged effectiveness for more than four decades and rendering those ...

Inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis. Syntheses of 14α-alkyl substituted 15-oxygenated sterols

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1979
Abstract The chemical syntheses of a number of 14α-alkyl substituted 15-oxygenated sterols have been pursued to permit evaluation of their activity in the inhibition of the biosynthesis of cholesterol and other biological effects. Described herein are the first chemical syntheses of 14α-ethyl-5α-cholest-7-en-3β-ol-15-one, bis-3β,15α-acetoxy-14α-ethyl-

Mechanism of action of Denmert, an inhibitor of sterol biosynthesis

Netherlands Journal of Plant Pathology, 1977
Effects of the fungicide Denmert on sterol biosynthesis were examined. The rates of inhibition of ergosterol formation were roughly correlated to its fungitoxic activity among four fungal species tested. In cell-free homogenates of yeast (S. cerevisiae), the fungicide blocked the conversion of lanosterol to 14-desmethyl-lanosterol.

The influence of an inhibitor of cholesterol biosynthesis (triparanol) on the concentration of sterols in rat tissues

Journal of Atherosclerosis Research, 1964
Summary The concentrations of cholesterol, desmosterol and total sterols (cholesterol plus desmosterol) were determined in the tissues of rats treated with an inhibitor of cholesterol biosynthesis, triparanol. The results were compared with those obtained from non-treated rats (controls).

[Micromycetes metabolites--inhibitors of growth and sterol biosynthesis in yeasts].

Antibiotiki i khimioterapiia = Antibiotics and chemoterapy [sic], 2002
Antifungal activity of micelial fungus metabolites (of genera Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Stachybotris, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Gliocladium, Paecilomyces, Trichoderma etc.) was determined. It was shown that antifungal activity of some micromycetes is due to the formation of substances inhibiting sterols biosynthesis in eucaryote cells ...
