Connexin45 colocalization patterns in the plexiform layers of the developing mouse retina

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 243, Issue 2, Page 258-264, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Chemical and electrical synapses (gap junctions) are widely prevalent in the nervous system. Gap junctions emerge long before chemical synapses, allowing communication between developing cells, and are thought to be involved in establishing neural circuits.

RNA viruses alter house dust mite physiology and allergen production with no detected consequences for allergenicity

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 32, Issue 2, Page 173-186, April 2023., 2023
The infection of the European house dust mite with RNA viruses affects the expression of allergen‐related, immunity and stress‐response genes. Major allergen Der p 23 is upregulated (with ELISA titres increasing in culture extracts), whilst serine protease allergens Der p 3, 6 and 9 are downregulated (trypsin and chymotrypsin activities reduced).

βPS-Integrin acts downstream of Innexin 2 in modulating stretched cell morphogenesis in the Drosophila ovary

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2021
During oogenesis, a group of specialized follicle cells, known as stretched cells (StCs), flatten drastically from cuboidal to squamous shape. While morphogenesis of epithelia is critical for organogenesis, genes and signaling pathways involved in this ...

Distinct patterns of gene expression during regeneration and asexual reproduction in the annelid Pristina leidyi

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, Volume 338, Issue 7, Page 405-420, November 2022., 2022
Summary of the workflow developed in this study. Abstract Regeneration, the ability to replace lost body parts, is a widespread phenomenon in the animal kingdom often connected to asexual reproduction or fission, since the only difference between the two appears to be the stimulus that triggers them.

Epithelial–mesenchymal transition: The history, regulatory mechanism, and cancer therapeutic opportunities

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 3, Issue 2, June 2022., 2022
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition contributes to multiple hallmarks of cancer, including metastasis activation, metabolic reprogramming, stemness acquisition, and chronic inflammation, which is regulated by complex signaling network and is highly context dependent.

Innexin gap junctions in nerve cells coordinate spontaneous contractile behavior in Hydra polyps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Nerve cells and spontaneous coordinated behavior first appeared near the base of animal evolution in the common ancestor of cnidarians and bilaterians. Experiments on the cnidarian Hydra have demonstrated that nerve cells are essential for this behavior,

Bracovirus-mediated innexin hemichannel closure in cell disassembly

open access: yesiScience, 2021
Summary: Cell-cell communication is necessary for cellular immune response. Hemichannel closure disrupts communication between intracellular and extracellular environments during polydnavirus-induced immunosuppression in invertebrates.

Characterization of innexin gene expression and functional roles of gap-junctional communication in planarian regeneration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Planaria possess remarkable powers of regeneration. After bisection, one blastema regenerates a head, while the other forms a tail. The ability of previously-adjacent cells to adopt radically different fates could be due to long-range signaling allowing ...

A role for Innexin2 and Innexin3 proteins from Spodoptera litura in apoptosis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Gap junctions formed by two hemichannels from two neighboring cells are cell-to-cell communication channels; hemichannels are communication channels between intracellular and extracellular environments.

A gonadal gap junction INX-14/Notch GLP-1 signaling axis suppresses gut defense through an intestinal lysosome pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Gap junctions mediate intercellular communications across cellular networks in the nervous and immune systems. Yet their roles in intestinal innate immunity are poorly understood.
