A MULTICENTER ICET-A STUDY ON AGE AT MENARCHE AND MENSTRUAL CYCLES IN PATIENTS WITH TRANSFUSION-DEPENDENT THALASSEMIA (TDT) WHO STARTED EARLY CHELATION THERAPY WITH DIFFERENT CHELATING AGENTS.

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Hematology and Infectious Diseases, 2023
. Objective: To evaluate the age at menarche and menstrual characteristics in patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) who started early chelation therapy (≤ 3 years) with a variety of chelating agents.

Mepce Restrains Ferroptosis in Prostate Cancer Through 7SK–P‐TEFb Pause Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide CRISPR screening identifies MEPCE as a pause‐control regulator that restrains ferroptosis in prostate cancer. MEPCE loss releases P‐TEFb/CDK9 from 7SK snRNP control, enhances RNAPII Ser2 phosphorylation, and accelerates NRF2‐HMOX1‐driven labile iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, revealing a transcriptional kinetic gate that lowers ...

Iron Chelation Therapy: An Expanding Horizon

open access: yes, 2010
Iron chelation has been a life saving therapy for thalassaemia major patients over the past 30 years. With the introduction of orally active chelators, other diseases are now also being treated, for instance sickle cell disease, myeloma dysplasia and ...

Italian Society of Hematology practice guidelines for the management of iron overload in thalassemia major and related disorders

open access: yesHaematologica, 2008
New measures of iron accumulation in liver and heart (superconducting quantum inference device and magnetic resonance imaging), and oral iron chelators (deferiprone and deferasirox) are available for managing iron overload in thalassemia major. To assure

Intranasal Delivery of Gallium–Quercetin Nanoparticles for Multi‐Target Ferroptosis Inhibition in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Leveraging the chemical similarity between Ga3+ and Fe3+ as well as the antioxidant properties of quercetin, gallium–quercetin nanoparticles (GQNPs) were prepared to integrate iron homeostasis regulation, oxidative stress suppression, and mitochondrial protection for multi‐target ferroptosis inhibition in Parkinson's Disease.

EP300‐Mediated MTF1‐K218 Lactylation Buffers AR‐Driven Copper Overload to Suppress Cuproptosis in Castration‐Resistant Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Androgen receptor (AR) drives copper accumulation in prostate cancer while inducing MTF1 to buffer copper toxicity. EP300‐mediated lactylation of MTF1 at K218 promotes its nuclear translocation and metallothionein expression, sequestering cytosolic copper and preventing mitochondrial cuproptosis.

Machine learning in the prediction of liver iron concentration and iron chelation therapy adjustment

open access: yesHematology
Objectives Iron chelation therapy titration is managed by hematologists who monitor iron levels and adjust medication dosages to achieve patient outcomes. This study developed a machine learning (ML) algorithm to predict the liver iron concentration (LIC)

An Avalanche Effect Nanomodulator Triggers Cascade Ferroptosis/Cuproptosis for Immunosuppressive Microenvironment Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanomodulator called L‐Arginine/lificiguat@Copper‐hollow Prussian blue@Calcium phosphate nanoparticles is constructed to launch a self‐amplifying “avalanche effect” in tumor cells. The ensuing cascade, triggered by the acidic tumor microenvironment and near‐infrared light, induces calcium overload, generates a reactive oxygen species and reactive ...
