Late acceptance-based selection hyper-heuristics for cross-domain heuristic search [PDF]

open access: yes2013 13th UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI), 2013
Hyper-heuristics are high-level search methodologies used to find solutions to difficult real-world optimisation problems. Hyper-heuristics differ from many traditional optimisation techniques as they operate on a search space of low-level heuristics, rather than directly on a search space of potential solutions. A traditional iterative selection hyper-

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Late-time Instability for UPML and Periodic Boundary in Elongated Multilayer Thin Plate Simulations [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2019
In this article, we examine the late-time instability properties of hybrid boundary conditions in the discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) simulations of an elongated multilayer thin plate.

Principal component analysis-based inversion of effective temperatures for late-type stars

open access: yes, 2015
We show how the range of application of the principal component analysis-based inversion method of Paletou et al. (2015) can be extended to late-type stars data.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Domain wall formation in late-time phase transitions [PDF]

open access: yes
We examine domain wall formulation in late time phase transitions. We find that in the invisible axion domain wall phenomenon, thermal effects alone are insufficient to drive different parts of the disconnected vacuum manifold.
