Leishmania amazonensis: Characterization of an ecto-phosphatase activity [PDF]
We have characterized a phosphatase activity present on the external surface of Leishmania amazonensis, using intact living parasites. This enzyme hydrolyzes the substrate p-nitrophenylphosphate (p-NPP) at the rate of 25.70+/-1.17 nmol Pi x h(-1) x 10(-7)cells. The dependence on p-NPP concentration shows a normal Michaelis-Menten kinetics for this ecto-

Exploring Biological Properties of Manganese(II)‐Phenanthroline‐Based Complexes: In Vitro Insights
Four Mn(II) complexes with phenanthroline derivatives were studied. These compounds were tested against several parasites and different human cancer cells. Despite its cytotoxicity on breast cancer, DNA seems not to be the main biological target. These complexes can drive the design and development of new metal‐based agents with improved biological ...

This work highlights the satisfactory pharmacokinetic profile of two benzenesulfonylpiperazine lead candidates, followed by in vivo assessment in a murine model of visceral leishmaniasis. This assessment identified compound 2 as moderately active at a lower dose, but its efficacy increased at higher doses, though with concerns regarding safety.

Efficacy of a diarylheptanoid derivative against Leishmania amazonensis [PDF]
The activity of several diarylheptanoid derivatives (curcuminoids) was previously evaluated against Leishmania amazonensis promastigotes and among them the most active compound was the [1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-7-(3,4-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenyl)-1,6-heptadien-3, 5-dione]. This derivative was chosen to be assayed in vivo in a treatment trial.

Thymus and Leishmania at the Crossroads: Autoimmunity and Cancer
Conceptual ‘Crossroads Model’ linking Leishmania, thymic infection and immune dysregulation: an integrative model is proposed in which Leishmania infection disrupts thymic architecture and stromal–thymocyte interactions. These alterations converge to promote defective tolerance, increased autoimmune risk and a microenvironment permissive to malignant ...

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is mainly caused by Leishmania (Leishmania) donovani and Leishmania (L.) infantum; however, other Leishmania species have been associated with VL. We report a case of a patient simultaneously diagnosed with VL caused by Leishmania (L.) amazonensis and Hodgkin's lymphoma.

ABSTRACT Chronic wounds, exacerbated by infection, aging, diabetes, and oxidative stress, remain a significant challenge in clinical management and impose a substantial burden on healthcare systems. This study presents oregano‐derived plasma polymers (OPP) as a multifunctional surface coating for advanced wound healing applications.

Cinnamides Target Leishmania amazonensis Arginase Selectively [PDF]
Caffeic acid and related natural compounds were previously described as Leishmania amazonensis arginase (L-ARG) inhibitors, and against the whole parasite in vitro. In this study, we tested cinnamides that were previously synthesized to target human arginase.
