FVB/NJ strain as a mouse model for cutaneous leishmaniasis by Leishmania (L.) amazonensis. [PDF]
Leishmaniases encompass a spectrum of neglected diseases caused by parasites of the genus Leishmania, grouped in two forms: tegumentary and visceral leishmaniasis. In this study, we propose Friend Virus B NIH Jackson (FVB/NJ) mouse strain as a new experimental model of infection with Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis, the second most prevalent agent ...

Leishmania (L.) amazonensis-induced inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis in host macrophages [PDF]
Inhibition of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production was demonstrated in J774-G8 macrophages infected with Leishmania (L.) amazonensis promastigotes. The downmodulation of NO production observed in infected and LPS-stimulated J774-G8 cells correlated with a reduction in inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) activity.

Chemotherapy against visceral leishmaniasis is associated with high toxicity and drug resistance. Leishmania parasites are purine auxotrophs that obtain their purines from exogenous sources. Nucleoside hydrolases release purines from nucleosides and are drug targets for anti-leishmanial drugs, absent in mammal cells.

N-acetyl-L-cysteine reduces Leishmania amazonensis-induced inflammation in BALB/c mice [PDF]
AbstractBackgroundLeishmaniasis is a emergent disease characterized by different clinical manifestations in both humans and dogs. Predominant clinical features of cutaneous leishmaniasis are ulcerative painless skin lesions. Several data reported that pain is associated with human and dog leishmaniasis, out with areas of painless ulcerative lesions per

The use of kDNA minicircle subclass relative abundance to differentiate between Leishmania (L.) infantum and Leishmania (L.) amazonensis. [PDF]
Leishmaniasis is a neglected disease caused by many Leishmania species, belonging to subgenera Leishmania (Leishmania) and Leishmania (Viannia). Several qPCR-based molecular diagnostic approaches have been reported for detection and quantification of Leishmania species.

Leishmania is a protozoan that causes leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical disease with clinical manifestations classified as cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral leishmaniasis. In the infection context, the parasite can modulate macrophage gene expression affecting the microbicidal activity and immune response.

Extracellular matrix alterations in experimental murine Leishmania (L.) amazonensis infection
Here we describe extracellular matrix alterations in footpad lesions and draining lymph nodes caused by Leishmania (L.) amazonensis in mouse strains with distinct susceptibilities to this parasite: BALB/c (susceptible), C57BL/6 (intermediate), and DBA/2 (resistant).

Leishmaniasis has been considered as emerging and re-emerging disease, and its increasing global incidence has raised concerns. The great clinical diversity of the disease is mainly determined by the species. In several American countries, tegumentary leishmaniasis (TL) is associated with both Leishmania amazonensis and L.

Phage-fused epitopes from Leishmania infantum used as immunogenic vaccines confer partial protection against Leishmania amazonensis infection [PDF]
Two mimotopes of Leishmania infantum identified by phage display were evaluated as vaccine candidates in BALB/c mice against Leishmania amazonensis infection.
