Acute Encephalopathy in a Patient With Chronic Isotretinoin Exposure and Frequent Rizatriptan Use: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Acute encephalopathy in patients with prolonged isotretinoin exposure should prompt careful assessment of undisclosed or non‐prescribed medication use. This case suggests a possible association between high cumulative isotretinoin exposure, frequent daily rizatriptan use, and acute encephalopathy, but does not establish a definitive drug–drug ...

Impella‐Assisted High‐Risk Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Cardiogenic Shock With Low‐Flow, Low‐Gradient Aortic Stenosis and Multivessel Coronary Artery Disease: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Patients with cardiogenic shock, low‐flow, low‐gradient aortic stenosis, and multivessel coronary artery disease who are ineligible for surgery present a major therapeutic challenge. Percutaneous mechanical circulatory support may facilitate revascularization in this high‐risk population. A 69‐year‐old man presented after a mechanical fall and

Preserved Spermatogenesis and Hormonal Function in Men Receiving a Pretomanid Regimen (BPaMZ) for Pulmonary Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 120, Issue 2, Page 501-509, August 2026.
Pretomanid is a component of the World Health Organization‐recommended treatment regimen for drug‐resistant tuberculosis in patients aged ≥ 14 years. While preclinical rodent studies identified testicular toxicity as a potential clinical liability at elevated doses, no corresponding effects were observed in nonhuman primates nor clinical hormone ...

On‐site pilot‐scale advanced oxidation pretreatment of hospital wastewater: assessment of pharmaceuticals, pathogens, antibiotic resistance genes and acute ecotoxicity

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 8, Page 1478-1491, August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Hospital premises generate wastewater containing a wide spectrum of contaminants, such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pathogenic microorganisms, whilst plenty of them are classified under the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ΑRΒ) category.

MetF‐Dependent Methionine Biosynthesis Is Required for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Survival and In Vivo Persistence

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
MetF is essential for both in vitro and in vivo growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, whereas MetE, previously considered essential in vitro, is dispensable in vivo. Given the importance of methionine and folate metabolism as drug targets, MetF represents a promising candidate, highlighting the need for in vivo validation.

The effect of fentanyl combined with linezolid on in-hospital mortality in mechanically ventilated patients: A retrospective cohort study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundThe combination of linezolid and opioid drugs such as fentanyl may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, but its impact on in-hospital mortality is not yet clear.

Antimicrobial Resistance of Serratia marcescens Recovered From Aquatic Environments: A Review

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
Serratia marcescens is a gram‐negative bacillus forming biofilms and showing multidrug resistance. Review (2019–2024) included 13 studies, 90 aquatic isolates. High resistance to β‐lactams, including carbapenems. Genes: blaOXA‐48, blaTEM‐1, aac(6′)‐Ic. Aquatic environments are reservoirs, requiring monitoring and control to prevent spread.

Pharmacokinetics of PP353, a formulation of linezolid for intervertebral disc administration, in patients with chronic low back pain and Modic change Type 1: A first‐in‐human, Phase 1b, open‐label, single‐dose study

open access: yesJOR Spine
Background Bacterial infection of the intervertebral disc is difficult to treat because the tissue is usually not vascularized and systemic antibiotic therapy may not reach optimal antibacterial exposure.
