Glucocorticoids increase basal lipolysis, but not epinephrine stimulated lipolysis
Glucocorticoids (GCs) are associated with central obesity, yet have been classically defined as lipolytic. We have recently shown that exercise training decreases fat mass while increasing GC action in adipocytes, perhaps by increasing adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) and hormone sensitive lipase (HSL).

Regulation and Functions of Autophagic Lipolysis [PDF]
The selective breakdown by autophagy of lipid droplet (LD)-stored lipids, termed lipophagy, is a lysosomal lipolytic pathway that complements the actions of cytosolic neutral lipases. The physiological importance of lipophagy has been demonstrated in multiple mammalian cell types, as well as in lower organisms, and this pathway has many functions in ...

Galectin-12 in Cellular Differentiation, Apoptosis and Polarization. [PDF]
Galectin-12 is a member of a family of mammalian lectins characterized by their affinity for β-galactosides and consensus amino acid sequences. The protein structure consists of a single polypeptide chain containing two carbohydrate-recognition domains ...

Lipolysis Control: The Plot Thickens [PDF]
The complex process of lipolysis mobilizes fatty acids from adipocyte triglyceride stores for energy production in muscle and other organs during fasting and exercise. In this issue of Cell Metabolism, Yang, et al. identify G0S2 as a regulator of the key enzyme, adipose triglyceride lipase.

Genomic Insights into the Origin, High Fecundity and Environmental Adaptation of Hu Sheep
The Hu sheep diverged from the Small‐tailed Han sheep ≈1330 years ago, and subsequently migrated from northern to warm and humid southern regions. The genes BMPR1B, UNC5C, and GRID2 play a synergistic role in the superior reproductive traits of Hu sheep.
