Beyond Carbon: The Contributions of South American Tropical Humid and Subhumid Forests to Ecosystem Services

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 60, Issue 4, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Tropical forests are recognized for their role in providing diverse ecosystem services (ESs), with carbon uptake the best recognized. The capacity of tropical forests to provide ESs is strongly linked to their enormous biodiversity. However, causal relationships between biodiversity and ESs are poorly understood.

Recruitment of dynein and kinesin to viral particles

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 36, Issue 5, May 2022., 2022
Abstract Dynein and kinesin are cytoskeletal motor proteins involved in transporting cellular cargos and viruses. Throughout viral infection, they actively participate in the virus life cycle in the cell during entry, genome replication, and departure.

Observation of arenavirus nucleoprotein heptamer assembly

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 1076-1083, April 2021., 2021
The nucleoprotein associates with RNA to form a ribonucleoprotein complex. The nucleoprotein trends to self‐assemble into heptameric rings. Theses rings represent stable intermediate states representative of the average full turn of the Arenaviridae ribonucleoprotein filament.

Application of spectral library prediction for parallel reaction monitoring of viral peptides

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, Volume 21, Issue 7-8, April 2021., 2021
Abstract A major part of the analysis of parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) data is the comparison of observed fragment ion intensities to a library spectrum. Classically, these libraries are generated by data‐dependent acquisition (DDA). Here, we test Prosit, a published deep neural network algorithm, for its applicability in predicting spectral ...

Chapare virus, a newly discovered arenavirus isolated from a fatal hemorrhagic fever case in Bolivia. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2008
A small focus of hemorrhagic fever (HF) cases occurred near Cochabamba, Bolivia, in December 2003 and January 2004. Specimens were available from only one fatal case, which had a clinical course that included fever, headache, arthralgia, myalgia, and ...

Contrasting Modes of New World Arenavirus Neutralization by Immunization-Elicited Monoclonal Antibodies

open access: yesmBio, 2022
Transmission of the New World hemorrhagic fever arenaviruses Junín virus (JUNV) and Machupo virus (MACV) to humans is facilitated, in part, by the interaction between the arenavirus GP1 glycoprotein and the human transferrin receptor 1 (hTfR1).

Isolation of Reconstructed Functional Ribonucleoprotein Complexes of Machupo Virus

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2021
Arenaviruses are rodent-borne pathogens that can cause severe disease in humans. All arenaviruses begin the infection cycle with delivery of the virus replication machinery into the cytoplasm of the host cell.

Molecular docking analysis of FDA approved drugs with the glycoprotein from Junin and Machupo viruses. [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformation, 2022
Arenaviruses, Junin and Machupo are pathogenic viruses in regions of South America including Argentina and Bolivia causing haemorrhagic fever among humans. They have been transmitted to humans through mouse causing chronic illness with high mortality. Therefore, it is of interest to acquittance the molecular docking analysis data of FDA approved drugs ...

Assembly of a functional Machupo virus polymerase complex [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2010
Segmented negative-sense viruses of the family Arenaviridae encode a large polymerase (L) protein that contains all of the enzymatic activities required for RNA synthesis. These activities include an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) and an RNA endonuclease that cleaves capped primers from ...
