The melanocortin receptors and their accessory proteins. [PDF]
The five melanocortin receptors (MCRs) named MC1R-MC5R have diverse physiological roles encompassing pigmentation, steroidogenesis, energy homeostasis and feeding behavior as well as exocrine function.

SUN-LB107 Functional Characterisation of Human Heterozygous Non-Synonymous MC3R Variants [PDF]
Abstract Background: Melanocortin 3 receptor (MC3R) is a member of the melanocortin family of G-protein coupled receptors predominantly expressed in hypothalamic tissue. Rodent models have implicated MC3R in the pathogenesis of obesity, however in humans the relationship between obesity phenotypes and impaired MC3R function is less well ...

Polymorphisms in MC3R promoter and CTSZ 3′UTR are associated with tuberculosis susceptibility [PDF]
We have validated the association of two genes on chromosome 20q13.31-33 with tuberculosis susceptibility. A previous genome-wide linkage study performed by Cooke et al identified the genes melanocortin-3-receptor (MC3R) and cathepsin Z (CTSZ) as possible candidates in tuberculosis susceptibility.

Objective To investigate the inhibitory effect of Nle4-D-Phe7-α-MSH (NDP-MSH) that binds to melanocortin-3 receptor (Mc3r) on oxidative stress and neuronal apoptosis in mice with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).

Signal Transduction and Pathogenic Modifications at the Melanocortin-4 Receptor: A Structural Perspective [PDF]
The melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) can be endogenously activated by binding of melanocyte-stimulating hormones (MSH), which mediates anorexigenic effects. In contrast, the agouti-related peptide (AgRP) acts as an endogenous inverse agonist and suppresses

Objective: Appetitive responses to weight loss are mediated by a nutrient-sensing neural network comprised of melanocortin neurons. The role of neural melanocortin-3 receptors (MC3R) in mediating these responses is enigmatic. Mc3r knockout mice exhibit a

Pathophysiology of melanocortin receptors and their accessory proteins. [PDF]
The melanocortin receptors (MCRs) and their accessory proteins (MRAPs) are involved in regulation of a diverse range of endocrine pathways. Genetic variants of these components result in phenotypic variation and disease. The MC1R is expressed in skin and
