A novel method for interrogating receiver operating characteristic curves for assessing prognostic tests

open access: yesDiagnostic and Prognostic Research, 2017
Background Disease prevalence is rarely explicitly considered in the early stages of the development of novel prognostic tests. Rather, researchers use the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) as the key metric to gauge and report ...

Microbiome and Metabolomics

open access: yesMedical Journal of Babylon, 2023
The relationship between microbiome and metabolomics by studying the microbiota living in the human body and studying their effects on the concentration of metabolites, also to study effects of microbiota colonization on other bacteria or living organism entering the body.

Immunometabolism is a key factor for the persistent spontaneous elite control of HIV-1 infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Approximately 25% of elite controllers (ECs) lose their virological control by mechanisms that are only partially known. Recently, immunovirological and proteomic factors have been associated to the loss of spontaneous control. Our aim was to perform a

Metabolomics-based biomarker discovery for bee health monitoring : a proof of concept study concerning nutritional stress in Bombus terrestris [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Bee pollinators are exposed to multiple natural and anthropogenic stressors. Understanding the effects of a single stressor in the complex environmental context of antagonistic/synergistic interactions is critical to pollinator monitoring and may serve ...

Plasticizer degradation by marine bacterial isolates : a proteogenomic and metabolomic characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Many commercial plasticizers are toxic endocrine-disrupting chemicals that are added to plastics during manufacturing and may leach out once they reach the environment.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Metabolomic Analysis of Phytochemical Compounds from Agricultural Residues of Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
The eggplant is a fruit rich in natural products and produced worldwide. However, its cultivation generates a large amount of scarcely used agricultural residues with poor chemical characterization.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
