Peripheral blood gene expression reveals an inflammatory transcriptomic signature in Friedreich's ataxia patients. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Transcriptional changes in Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA), a rare and debilitating recessive Mendelian neurodegenerative disorder, have been studied in affected but inaccessible tissues-such as dorsal root ganglia, sensory neurons and cerebellum-in animal ...

Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Canonical and non‐canonical functions of proteins regulating mitochondrial dynamics in mammalian physiology

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles that continuously remodel their architecture through coordinated cycles of fusion and fission. This review examines the four key GTPases that orchestrate mitochondrial dynamics in mammals: MFN1, MFN2, OPA1, and DRP1.

Natural Inhibitors of Snake Venom Metalloendopeptidases: History and Current Challenges

open access: yesToxins, 2016
The research on natural snake venom metalloendopeptidase inhibitors (SVMPIs) began in the 18th century with the pioneering work of Fontana on the resistance that vipers exhibited to their own venom.

Insulin-Degrading Enzyme Regulates the Proliferation and Apoptosis of Porcine Skeletal Muscle Stem Cells via Myostatin/MYOD Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Identifying the genes relevant for muscle development is pivotal to improve meat production and quality in pigs. Insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE), a thiol zinc-metalloendopeptidase, has been known to regulate the myogenic process of mouse and rat myoblast ...

Secreted proteins as signalling molecules in Streptomyces development = Secreted proteins as signalling molecules in Streptomyces development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A streptomycesek Gram-pozitív, micéliális növekedésű mikroorganizmusok, melyek életciklusuk során komplex morfológiai differenciálódáson mennek keresztül, s ez jellemzően spóraképzéssel fejeződik be.

Crystal Structure of Human Leukocyte Cell-derived Chemotaxin 2 (LECT2) Reveals a Mechanistic Basis of Functional Evolution in a Mammalian Protein with an M23 Metalloendopeptidase Fold*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2016
Human leukocyte cell-derived chemotaxin 2 (LECT2), which is predominantly expressed in the liver, is a multifunctional protein. LECT2 is becoming a potential therapeutic target for several diseases of worldwide concern such as rheumatoid arthritis ...

Genome‐Wide In Silico Analysis of the Type VI Secretion System (T6SS) Within the Morganella Genus

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
▪ Species‐specific T6SS patterns among Morganella genus (M. morganii and M. sibonii). ▪ Only one‐third of M. morganii isolates haboured a T6SS. ▪ All M. sibonii possess four T6SS clusters. ▪ M. sibonii exhibited a wide diversity of effectors compared to M. morganii.

Serum Proteomic Analysis Using Gel‐Based Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry Reveals Differences Between Canine Oral Malignancies and Non‐Malignant Conditions

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
This study establishes a GeLC‐MS/MS‐based serum proteomics workflow for canine oral oncology to differentiate malignancies from non‐malignant conditions. Comprehensive protein profiling, pathway analysis and protein–drug interaction mapping reveal candidate biomarkers and insights into the pathogenesis of canine oral cancers.
