QUANTIFYING UNCERTAINTY IN A MEASUREMENT-BASED ASSESSMENT OF RELATIVE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTIVENESS IN CARBON ION RADIOTHERAPY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
One of the largest inconsistencies in dose delivered during carbon ion therapy is due to uncertainties in relative biological effectiveness (RBE), a value that is calculated via one of several clinically implemented algorithms.

An Analytical Model for the Prediction of a Micro-Dosimeter Response Function [PDF]

open access: yes
A rapid analytical procedure for the prediction of a micro-dosimeter response function in low Earth orbit (LEO), correlated with the Space Transportation System (STS, shuttle) Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter (TEPC) measurements is presented.

Stochastic Microdosimetric Kinetic model for hypo-fractionated multi-ion therapy

open access: yesStochastic Microdosimetric Kinetic model for hypo-fractionated multi-ion therapy
The microdosimetric kinetic (MK) model is a biological model used to predict cell-survival fractions from the specific energy absorbed by a microscopic subnuclear structure, domain, for various radiations. The MK model has been used in clinical treatments of carbon-ion radiotherapy at NIRS.

Adaptation of the microdosimetric kinetic model to hypoxia

open access: yesAdaptation of the microdosimetric kinetic model to hypoxia
Ion beams present a potential advantage in terms of treatment of lesions with hypoxic regions. In order to use this potential, it is important to accurately model the cell survival of oxic as well as hypoxic cells. In this work, an adaptation of the microdosimetric kinetic (MK) model making it possible to account for cell hypoxia is presented.
