Mitochondrial Fission, Fusion, and Stress [PDF]
Mitochondrial Dynamics Mitochondria—the powerhouses of the cell—are autonomous organelles with their own genomes. Within cells, mitochondria are remarkably dynamic, continually moving around the cytoplasm and undergoing fusion and fission reactions. Youle and van der Bliek (p. 1062 )

Elastocapillary Instability in Mitochondrial Fission [PDF]
Mitochondria are dynamic cell organelles that constantly undergo fission and fusion events. These dynamical processes, which tightly regulate mitochondrial morphology, are essential for cell physiology. Here we propose an elastocapillary mechanical instability as a mechanism for mitochondrial fission.

Mechanisms of Mitochondrial Fission and Fusion [PDF]
Mitochondria continually change shape through the combined actions of fission, fusion, and movement along cytoskeletal tracks. The lengths of mitochondria and the degree to which they form closed networks are determined by the balance between fission and fusion rates. These rates are influenced by metabolic and pathogenic conditions inside mitochondria

AbstractFamilial cerebellar ataxia with hydrocephalus in Bullmastiffs was described almost 40 years ago as a monogenic autosomal recessive trait. We investigated two young Bullmastiffs showing similar clinical signs. They developed progressive gait and behavioural abnormalities with an onset at around 6 months of age.

A PKD-MFF signaling axis couples mitochondrial fission to mitotic progression
Summary: Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles subjected to fission and fusion events. During mitosis, mitochondrial fission ensures equal distribution of mitochondria to daughter cells. If and how this process can actively drive mitotic progression

New therapeutic directions in type II diabetes and its complications: mitochondrial dynamics
As important organelles of energetic and metabolism, changes in the dynamic state of mitochondria affect the homeostasis of cellular metabolism. Mitochondrial dynamics include mitochondrial fusion and mitochondrial fission.

Dysregulated mitochondrial metabolism occurs in several pathological processes characterized by cell proliferation and migration. Nonetheless, the role of mitochondrial fission is not well appreciated in cardiac fibrosis, which is accompanied by enhanced

An Ancient Fission of Mitochondrial cox1 [PDF]
Many genes inherited from the alpha-proteobacterial ancestor of mitochondria have undergone evolutionary transfer to the nuclear genome in eukaryotes. In some rare cases, genes have been functionally transferred in pieces, resulting in split proteins that presumably interact in trans within mitochondria, fulfilling the same role as the ancestral ...

Insulin-stimulated lipid accumulation is inhibited by ROS-scavenging chemicals, but not by the Drp1 inhibitor Mdivi-1. [PDF]
Adipocyte differentiation is regulated by intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and mitochondrial fission and fusion processes. However, the correlation between intracellular ROS generation and mitochondrial remodeling during adipocyte ...

Enhanced mitochondrial fission suppresses signaling and metastasis in triple-negative breast cancer
Background Mitochondrial dynamics underlies malignant transformation, cancer progression, and response to treatment. Current research presents conflicting evidence for functions of mitochondrial fission and fusion in tumor progression.
