Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

RETRACTED: Oxidized LDL Causes Endothelial Apoptosis by Inhibiting Mitochondrial Fusion and Mitochondria Autophagy

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced endothelial dysfunction is an initial step toward atherosclerosis development. Mitochondria damage correlates with ox-LDL-induced endothelial injury through an undefined mechanism. We explored the role of

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Characterization of Translocation Contact Sites Involved in the Import of Mitochondrial Proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Import of proteins into the mitochondrial matrix requires translocation across two membranes. Translocational intermediates of mitochondrial proteins, which span the outer and inner membrane simultaneously and thus suggest that translocation occurs in ...

Mitochondrial Membrane Dynamics—Functional Positioning of OPA1

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2018
The maintenance of mitochondrial energetics requires the proper regulation of mitochondrial morphology, and vice versa. Mitochondrial dynamins control mitochondrial morphology by mediating fission and fusion.

Relationship Between Neurologic Symptoms and Signs and FMR1 Genotype in Premutation Carriers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Fragile X‐associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) is the most severe late‐onset condition caused by a premutation in the FMR1 gene, characterized by expanded CGG triplet repeats of 55–200. Clinical presentations of FXTAS, including gait ataxia, kinetic tremor, cognitive decline, and rare Parkinsonism, are linked to ...

Mitochondrial Fusion Via OPA1 and MFN1 Supports Liver Tumor Cell Metabolism and Growth

open access: yesCells, 2020
Metabolic reprogramming universally occurs in cancer. Mitochondria act as the hubs of bioenergetics and metabolism. The morphodynamics of mitochondria, comprised of fusion and fission processes, are closely associated with mitochondrial functions and are

Longitudinal Assessment of Biomarkers in ALS: Discriminative Biomarkers for Disease Progression and Survival

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To assess the association and discriminative performance of serum biomarkers with clinical disease progression and survival in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods This retrospective study, conducted at Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX, used longitudinal serum samples collected between January 2018 and ...

In the absence of mitochondrial fusion unequal segregation of mitochondria drives mtDNA loss

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Mitochondrial biogenesis and inheritance must be tightly coordinated with cell division to maintain mitochondrial function and cell survival. The dynamics of the mitochondrial network, including fusion and fission, are essential for mitochondrial ...

Persistent Bilateral [18F]THK5351 and Migrating Unilateral [18F]FDG Uptake in Anti‐LGI1 Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Anti–leucine‐rich glioma‐inactivated 1 encephalitis (LGI1‐E) can cause persistent cognitive deficits, but the mechanisms remain unclear. A 40‐year‐old woman with LGI1‐E presented with subacute cognitive deficits and showed mild left medial temporal lobe (MTL) swelling and fluid‐attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) hyperintensity on initial ...
