Mitofusin-2 is a novel direct target of p53

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2010
The tumor suppressor p53 modulates transcription of a number of target genes involved in cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, DNA repair, and other important cellular responses. Mitofusin-2 (Mfn2) is a novel suppressor of cell proliferation that may also exert apoptotic effects via the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway.

Role of mitofusin 2 in cardiovascular oxidative injury

Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2010
Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles with constant shape changes regulated by fusion and fission events. In addition to regulating mitochondrial morphology, mitochondrial fusion/fission is involved in fundamental mitochondrial biological processes, including mitochondrial metabolism, energization, respiration, mitochondrial membrane potential ...

Mitofusin 1 and Mitofusin 2 Function in the Context of Brain Development

2011
Mitofusin 1 and 2 are outer-mitochondrial membrane proteins that have been shown to be involved in fusion. Mitofusin 2 has also been associated with apoptosis and development. When Mfn1 and Mfn2 were each conditionally knocked out from the cerebellum, Purkinje cells in Mfn2 deficient cerebellum during development had undergone neurodegeneration ...

The Role of Mitofusins in the Osteoclast Lineage

2019
Mitochondria exist in a highly dynamic network in many cell types, and mutations in mitochondrial transmembrane GTPase mitofusin2 (MFN2), a key factor that mediates mitochondrial tethering, cause defects in the nervous system. Intriguingly, the skeleton has been overlooked in patients with such mutations.

Mitofusin-2 Regulates Platelet Mitochondria and Function

Circulation Research
BACKGROUND: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms linked with the rs1474868 T allele ( MFN2 [mitofusin-2] T/T) in the human mitochondrial fusion protein MFN2 gene are associated with reduced platelet MFN2 RNA expression and platelet ...
