Geographical Distribution of Fusarium Species Involved in Fusarium Head Blight and Fusarium Crown Rot of Wheat in Tunisia and Their Mycotoxin Accumulation

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 5, Page 1290-1301, June 2025.
This study highlights a great diversity of Fusarium species on durum wheat in Tunisia, higher in crowns than in kernels, with F. culmorum as the dominant species and five species detected for the first time. ABSTRACT Fusarium crown rot (FCR) and Fusarium head blight (FHB) are among the most destructive diseases of wheat worldwide.

Mycotoxin occurrence in maize silage : a neglected risk for bovine gut health? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Forages are important components of dairy cattle rations but might harbor a plethora of mycotoxins. Ruminants are considered to be less susceptible to the adverse health effects of mycotoxins, mainly because the ruminal microflora degrades certain ...

Host Metabolites in Asparagus–Fusarium Interaction: Mechanisms and Regulation

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 4, Page 923-942, May 2025.
Specific host metabolites regulate Fusarium pathogenicity by modulating fungal gene expression, growth, mycotoxin biosynthesis, enhancing asparagus defence responses and ultimately affecting disease severity. ABSTRACT Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is an important perennial vegetable crop cultivated worldwide.

Presence of moniliformin in maize

open access: yes, 2022
Moniliformin (MON) is a widespread emerging mycotoxin, produced by a number of plant pathogenic Fusarium species (mainly F. subglutinans, F. avenaceum, F. temperatum, F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum) and one Penicillium species (P. melanoconidium). Based on the studies conducted in different countries and climatic conditions, MON has mostly been

Priority actions for Fusarium head blight resistance in durum wheat: Insights from the wheat initiative

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 1, March 2025.
Abstract Fusarium head blight (FHB), mainly caused by Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium culmorum, is a major wheat disease. Significant efforts have been made to improve resistance to FHB in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum), but more work is needed for durum wheat (Triticum turgidum spp. durum).

Toxicity of Dietary and Intravenously Administered Moniliformin to Broiler Chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1981
Moniliformin (1-hydroxy-cyclobut-1-ene-3,4-dione), either purified (0, 8, and 16 mg/kg of diet) or from culture of Fusarium moniliforme strain NRRL 6322 on corn grits (8, 16, and 64 mg/kg of diet) was fed to growing broiler chicks from 1 to 21 days of age.

Unveiling the Substrate‐Dependent Dynamics of Mycotoxin Production in Fusarium verticillioides Using an OSMAC‐Metabolomics Approach

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Fusarium verticillioides is a prevalent plant pathogenic fungus known to produce harmful mycotoxins, including fumonisins and emerging toxins. This study aimed to investigate the influence of substrate on the temporal patterns of mycotoxin biosynthesis by F.

Mycotoxins and related Fusarium species in preharvest maize ear rot in Poland

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2016
This work presents a survey on mycotoxins (seasons 2013 and 2014) and Fusarium species (seasons from 1985 to 2014) in maize ear rot in Poland. Twelve mycotoxins were identified in maize kernel samples exhibiting symptoms of Fusarium ear rot or rotten ...

Lactic Acid Bacteria and Bacteriocins in Feed Preservation: Mechanisms and Antifungal Properties

open access: yesGrass and Forage Science, Volume 80, Issue 1, January-March 2025.
ABSTRACT Ensilage consists of the fermentation of sugars to lactic acid independent of the forage by epiphytic microorganisms, lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which vary in number and composition during fermentation. Silage is a means of preserving forage for extended periods of time when fresh forage is limited or seasonally unavailable, and its ...

Cooccurrence of Mycotoxins in Maize and Poultry Feeds from Brazil by Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
The objective of this study was to quantitatively evaluate mycotoxins in samples of maize and poultry feed produced in Brazil. A multimycotoxin method based on HPLC-MS/MS was applied to investigate the occurrence of toxical fungal metabolites in 119 ...
