Accessing the Biocatalytic Potential for C−H‐Activation by Targeted Genome Mining and Screening

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 11, Issue 23, Page 5766-5777, December 5, 2019., 2019
Finding the P450 in the haystack! Genome data mining within sequenced strains finds novel microbial P450 monooxygenases. In combination with an activity screening this approach revealed several microbial candidates showing broad substrate scopes and a diverse formation of hydroxylation products.

The American cocoa pod borer, Carmenta foraseminis, an emerging pest of cocoa: A review El barrenador americano de la mazorca de cacao, Carmenta foraseminis, una plaga emergente del cacao: una revisión

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 340-356, August 2025.
Abstract This review provides a synthesis of the available knowledge on Carmenta foraseminis, an emerging cocoa pest in northern South America. This moth was first described in 1995 in Panama, and its proliferation across the Amazon basin is currently threatening the production of cocoa in the region and may endanger the sector's sustainability. Hence,

Morphological variants of Moniliophthora roreri on artificial media and the biotroph/necrotroph shift

open access: yesFungal Biology, 2018
Moniliophthora roreri (Mr) causes frosty pod rot of Theobroma cacao in a hemibiotrophic association. The Mr biotroph-like phase has not been studied in culture. Mr spores (isolates Co12, Co52, and B3) were germinated on high (V8) and low (BPMM) nutrients with different media hardness (0.5% to 3% agarose). Germination was high on V8 media.

Common mycorrhizal networks enhance defense responses against pathogens in neighboring plants

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 2, Issue 1, March 2025.
The common mycorrhizal networks (CMNs) provide a channel for interplant communication, which enables plants of different species to prepare for pathogen infections without direct exposure. The CMNs change the microbial abundance and community structure of the neighboring plants following pathogen infection in the donor plants, which further enhances ...
