Nurses' Pain Assessment and Attitudes: A Qualitative Study in a Neurointensive Care Unit

open access: yesNursing in Critical Care, Volume 31, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background As analgo‐sedation gains prominence, a significant portion of adult ICU patients—including those in neurointensive care units (neuro‐ICUs)—remain awake and conscious throughout their stay. Despite this, neuro‐ICU patients frequently experience moderate to severe pain, highlighting the critical need for enhanced pain assessment.

The cell-permeant antioxidant D-thiol ester D-cysteine ethyl ester overcomes physical dependence to morphine in male Sprague Dawley rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
The ability of morphine to decrease cysteine transport into neurons by inhibition of excitatory amino acid transporter 3 (EAA3) may be a key molecular mechanism underlying the acquisition of physical and psychological dependence to morphine.

Evaluation of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Guidance for Patients With Spinal Metastasis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 385-401, March 2026.
The flow diagram of study. ABSTRACT Surgery continues to remain the most effective treatment for spinal metastasis (SM). As the number of surgeries continues to grow, the need for consensus guidelines for optimal perioperative care is imperative. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols were created for this purpose. The objective of this study

Mitigating morphine dependence and withdrawal: The role of venlafaxine and calcium channel blockers in mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress in the brain

open access: yesBrain Research Bulletin
Background: The reasons for morphine dependence and withdrawal symptoms are oxidative stress and dysfunction of cell mitochondria in the brain. Venlafaxine, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), mitigates oxidative stress, while calcium ...

Caring in Ambulance Encounters With Older Patients With Complex Care Needs: A Phenomenographic Study

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, Volume 40, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Although caring is a core concept in nursing, its meaning is not uniform, and perceptions may vary across care settings. In ambulance care, encounters with older patients with complex care needs present challenges that may shape how caring is understood and practiced. Guided by a lifeworld‐led caring perspective, this study explores

Effect of Hydro-alcoholic extract of Jasminum sambac on morphine withdrawal symptoms in rats

open access: yesمجله علمی دانشگاه علوم پزشکی کردستان, 2018
Background and Aim: The exact mechanisms of morphine dependence and withdrawal syndrome remain unclear. Many studies have been performed to find agents with low dependency in order to decrease withdrawal symptoms. On the other hand studies have shown the
