This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Bicuculline reversibly inhibits mucus secretion.
Mucus secretion was analyzed in the presence of 50uM of bicuculline (A) or after changing the media without bicuculline at every 30 min (B). Mucus secretion was restored within 1 hour after removing bicuculline.

Neuropeptides in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis
The nervous system mediates key airway protective behaviors, including cough, mucus secretion, and airway smooth muscle contraction. Thus, its involvement and potential involvement in several airway diseases has become increasingly recognized.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

CLCA1 Regulates Airway Mucus Production and Ion Secretion Through TMEM16A [PDF]
TMEM16A, a Ca2+-activated chloride channel (CaCC), and its regulator, CLCA1, are associated with inflammatory airway disease and goblet cell metaplasia.

Creation of a spatially complex mucus bilayer on an in vitro colon model
The colonic epithelium is comprised of three-dimensional crypts (3D) lined with mucus secreted by a heterogeneous population of goblet cells. In this study, we report the formation of a long-lived, and self-renewing replica of human 3D crypts with a ...

Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.

Putative muco-active reagents affecting mucus secretion level.
The mucus level in the media upon the treatment of increasing doses of individual chemicals was normalized to those of control embryos and plotted on the graph (left panel, n = 5).
