Cryo-Electron Microscopy Structure of an Acinetobacter baumannii Multidrug Efflux Pump

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Resistance-nodulation-cell division multidrug efflux pumps are membrane proteins that catalyze the export of drugs and toxic compounds out of bacterial cells.

Elucidation of the structure and molecular mechanism of the tripartite multidrug efflux pumps in the Gram-negative pathogens: Vibrio cholerae and Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In bacteria, multidrug efflux systems have been identified as significant determinants of resistance recently. These resistance pumps are widely distributed in bacterial species and many pathogenic bacteria posses them, which play an important role in ...

Multidrug efflux pumps: drug binding – gates or cavity? [PDF]

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, 2010
The role of the ATP‐binding cassette ABCB1 in mediating the resistance to chemotherapy in many forms of cancer has been well established. The protein is also endogenously expressed in numerous barrier and excretory tissues, thereby regulating or impacting on drug pharmacokinetic profiles.

Asymmetric Single‐Atom Catalysts Govern Diffusible and Non‐Diffusible Non‐Radical Pathways for Selective Degradation of Antibiotic Resistance Genes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Asymmetric single‐atom metal‐nitrogen‐carbon catalysts modulate the non‐radical pathway during peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. A fundamental contrast was revealed between diffusible singlet oxygen (1O2) and non‐diffusible electron‐transfer pathways (ETP) in antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) degradation.

Physiological Role of Bacterial Multidrug Efflux Pumps

open access: yesYAKUGAKU ZASSHI, 2012
Since the discovery of antibiotics, the battle between humans and drug resistant bacteria has never stopped. Bacteria have developed various ways to resist the toxic effects of antibiotics and other drugs. Multidrug efflux pumps are integral membrane proteins that utilize cellular energy to extrude antibiotics or biocides actively out of the cell.

Interference of ATP‐Binding Cassette Transporter by Functional Nano‐Delivery System for High Efficiency Management of Insecticide‐Resistant Nilaparvata lugens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A ZIF‐90 nanocarrier delivers dinotefuran and suppresses NlABCG3 and NlABCH1 in resistant Nilaparvata lugens. This system combines pH/ATP‐triggered release with enhanced foliar retention, improving efficacy while sparing honeybees and promoting rice growth, offering a promising resistance‐breaking strategy.

Fighting back against bacterial resistance: Harnessing nanocarrier strategies to counter antibiotic efflux pumps

open access: yesNext Materials
The global rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections poses a significant threat to public health, mainly driven by antibiotic efflux pumps that actively expel drugs from bacterial cells and lower intracellular antibiotic concentrations below

Active efflux systems in the solvent-tolerant bacterium Pseudomonas putida S12 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to study the molecular mechanisms of organic solvent tolerance in Pseudomonas putida S12. This bacterium is capable of growth at saturated solvent concentrations, which are lethal to normal bacteria ...

Evidence for an efflux pump in multidrug-resistant Campylobacter jejuni [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1995
Mechanisms of drug resistance in Campylobacter jejuni were investigated. Mutant strains 34PEFr, which was resistant to pefloxacin (128-fold increase in the MIC), and 34CTXr, which was resistant to cefotaxime (32-fold increase in the MIC) and which was derived from the susceptible parent 34s, were obtained by serial passages on pefloxacin and cefotaxime
