Intestinal Fut2 deficiency exacerbated alcohol‐related liver disease by disrupting nicotinamide metabolism

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
Loss of intestinal epithelial fucosylation exacerbates alcohol‐related liver injuries. Intestinal epithelial deletion of Fut2 disrupts nicotinamide (NAM) metabolism due to the decline in bacterial nicotinamidase (PncA). Supplemented with pncA overexpressed E.coli to restore gut PncA levels can improve liver damage in alcohol‐induced intestinal ...

Stress Response of Miscanthus Plants and Soil Microbial Communities: A Case Study in Metals and Hydrocarbons Contaminated Soils

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Second-generation biofuel crop miscanthus is one of the most promising plants tested for phytomanagement of contaminated sites. In this preliminary pot case study, the most used hybrid Miscanthus x giganteus was cultivated in three different real ...

Maternal Circulatory NAD Precursor Levels and the Yolk Sac Determine NAD Deficiency‐Driven Congenital Malformation Risk

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 14, 31 July 2025.
Maternal circulatory L‐tryptophan (TRP) and nicotinamide (NAM) levels are proportional to dietary TRP intake. Yolk sacs, but not embryos, perform NAD de novo synthesis. This study explores the exchange of NAD precursors between mother and conceptus, and NAD generation in conceptal tissues via the NAD de novo synthesis (blue) or salvage (red) pathways ...

Structural dynamic modification of circular disc using pre-stressed fields

open access: yesResearch in Agricultural Engineering, 2005
Dynamical properties of circular discs are investigated in this paper. One of the techniques of the disc modifications to achieve the required dynamic properties is to initiate pre-stress in disc plane.

Design and Synthesis of New Sulfonic Acid Functionalized Ionic Liquids as Catalysts for Esterification of Fatty Acids with Bioethanol

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
In this study, three types of sulfonic acid group functionalized ionic liquids (SAILs) with a different number of catalytic groups and lipophilicity were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, NMR, and MS analyses.

Effects of Aging on Glucose and Lipid Metabolism in Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
Lien et al. report a characterization of metabolism with aging across three different strains of mice. They find that glucose metabolism is robust during healthy aging; however, aging tissues exhibit evidence of upregulated fatty acid and sphingolipid metabolism reactions that regenerate NAD+ from NADH.

Optimization of 1H‐MRS methods for large‐volume acquisition of low‐concentration downfield resonances at 3 T and 7 T

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 93, Issue 1, Page 18-30, January 2025.
Abstract Purpose This goal of this study was to optimize spectrally selective 1H‐MRS methods for large‐volume acquisition of low‐concentration metabolites with downfield resonances at 7 T and 3 T, with particular attention paid to detection of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) and tryptophan.

Effect of Dietary Ketosis and Nicotinamide Riboside on Hippocampal Krebs Cycle Intermediates and Mitochondrial Energetics in a DNA Repair‐Deficient 3xTg/POLβ+/− Alzheimer Disease Mouse Model

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 1, January 2025.
Alzheimer disease causes neurodegeneration of the hippocampus. It impedes brain glucose metabolism and impairs mitochondrial energy along electron transport chain (ETC). Will a ketone‐based diet with nicotinamide riboside restore hippocampal energy in an Alzheimer mouse model?
