Naringin Stimulates Osteogenic Differentiation of Rat Bone Marrow Stromal Cells via Activation of the Notch Signaling Pathway

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2016
Naringin is a major flavonoid found in grapefruit and is an active compound extracted from the Chinese herbal medicine Rhizoma Drynariae. Naringin is a potent stimulator of osteogenic differentiation and has potential application in preventing bone loss.

Naringin Glycosides α-Glucosylated on Ring B Found in the Natural Food Additive, Enzymatically Modified Naringin [PDF]

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2000
The constituents of the natural food additive, enzymatically modified naringin, were structurally analyzed. Four constituents were isolated from the glucoamylase-treated sample. An NMR analysis revealed that two of them were novel compounds having 4'-O-alpha-glucosyl moieties on ring B of the naringenin aglycone.

In Vitro Activity of Citrus IntegroPectin Against Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
Image shows microscopic photographs of MCF‐7 cells in the presence of lemon, red orange, and sweet orange IntegroPectin bioconjugates at 0.5 or 1.0 mg/mL concentration after 24 h next to a photograph of MCF‐7 cells as such (control). ABSTRACT We investigate the ability of IntegroPectin bioconjugates obtained via acoustic cavitation of lemon, red orange,

Protective effects of naringin against oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and DNA damage in rats with doxorubicin-induced hepatotoxicity

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine
Objective: To investigate the protective effects of naringin on doxorubicin (DOX)-induced liver injury. Methods: A total of 50 male rats were allocated into five groups: the control group, the DOX group, the DOX groups treated with 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg

Lipid‐based Nano‐delivery systems as a promising strategy for the treatment of epilepsy: Current status and challenges

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Epilepsy is a prevalent chronic neurological disorder characterized by abnormal neuronal electrical activity. The primary treatment modality for individuals with epilepsy (PWE) is antiseizure medication (ASM). The multiple potential factors contributing to treatment resistance in epilepsy may be attributed to the inability of ASMs to

Naringin-sensitive protein phosphorylation pathways in the regulation of hepatocytic autophagy

open access: yes, 2004
Autophagy is a process used by eukaryotic cells to degrade their own cytoplasm under conditions of nitrogen starvation or stress, in order to obtain amino acids and other small molecules needed for the maintenance of essential cell functions.

Advances in protein–polyphenol complexation: Unraveling mechanisms, modulation, and functional outcomes

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyphenolic compounds have attracted increasing market demand and extensive attention due to their potential health benefits and bioactivities. Meanwhile, proteins are widely used in the food industry for their nutritional and functional properties. However, the application of proteins in the food industry is often limited by challenges, such

Ferulic acid‐impregnated sodium alginate–pectin biopolymer film for active packaging and shelf‐life extension of potato chips

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND This study explores the development of active films incorporating ferulic acid (FA), a natural antioxidant, at concentrations of 0 (F1), 2.5 (F2), and 5 g L−1 (F3) into sodium alginate (SA; 13 g kg−1) and pectin (P; 10 g kg−1) matrix.
