Efficient Two-Step Synthesis of Novel Pyrimido[4,5-d] Pyrimidines with Potent Neuroprotective, Antioxidant, and Aβ Anti-Aggregation Properties

open access: yesChemistry
Eleven new differently substituted N,7-diphenylpyrimido [4,5-d]pyrimidin-4-amines 4a–k were synthesized from readily available reagents in a simple and inexpensive two-step procedure with yields up to 57%.

Neuroprotective potential of Mucuna pruriens in cerebral ischemia: Evidence from animal models and implications for translational neuropharmacology [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World
Background and Aim: Cerebral ischemia is a major neurological condition that contributes significantly to global morbidity and mortality. It occurs due to reduced blood supply to the brain, leading to neuronal injury and death.

Synthesis of Fluoroflavones as Potential Neuroprotective Agents

open access: yes, 2019
Flavones are polyphenol natural products that are known to have neuroprotective effects against many diseases caused by the formation of reactive species. Flavonoids are subgroup of flavones and they are believed to function as antioxidants. Specifically,

A Select Combination of Neurotrophins Enhances Neuroprotection and Functional Recovery following Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yes, 2007
Previously, we have shown that topical application of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) or insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) given within 5 to 30 min after a focal trauma to the rat spinal cord attenuates spinal cord injury (SCI)-induced ...

TDP‐43 Aggregation: The Healthy‐Toxic Balance of the Prion‐Like Domain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TDP‐43 function relies on a delicate balance between reversible phase‐separated states and irreversible aggregation. Under physiological conditions, TDP‐43 forms dynamic droplets and oligomers that support normal cellular functions. In pathological contexts, this balance shifts toward aberrant aggregation, leading to toxic species.

Biomimetic Hydrogel System Targeting S100A8 Centered Neuroimmune Crosstalk and Hypoxia Induced Neuronal Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic hydrogel (HPC@Gel) was developed for traumatic brain injury repair by combining oxygen‐carrying hemoglobin nanoparticles and anti‐inflammatory carbon quantum dots within a brain‐like matrix. The system alleviated hypoxia, reduced harmful neuroimmune signaling, protected neurons, supported neural regeneration, and improved neurological and ...

Multi‐Component Functionalized Bifidobacterium Longum Hydrogel for Multi‐Target Integrated Therapy of Colitis‐Associated Anxiety and Depression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pH/MMP dual‐responsive Bifidobacterium longum (BL) hydrogel (INPs@BL@Gel) functionalized with baicalin, tyrosine, and inulin is constructed. It enables gastric protection, inflammation‐targeted release, and prolonged intestinal colonization. By remodeling gut microbiota, elevating beneficial neuroactive metabolites (homovanillic acid, short‐chain ...

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1: A new neuroprotective agent for the treatment of hyperglycemia after stroke

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Acute hyperglycemia in ischemic stroke occurs in almost half of cases, inducing a worsening of the underlying pathophysiology. Hence, the management of acute hyperglycemia during the first hours following ischemic stroke requires well-defined strategies.
