Verrucacrylic Acids A and B From a Marine Sponge‐derived Verrucosispora sp. FIM06025

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2026.
Three new compounds, including two rare cyclopropane‐containing compounds, verrucacrylic acids A and B (1 and 2), and a new amino acid derivative (3), were isolated from Verrucosispora sp. FIM06025, 1 and 2 exhibited weak cytotoxic activity against HL‐60 and T47D. ABSTRACT Verrucosispora sp.

Genome mining unearths a hybrid nonribosomal peptide synthetase-like-pteridine synthase biosynthetic gene cluster

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Nonribosomal peptides represent a large class of metabolites with pharmaceutical relevance. Pteridines, such as pterins, folates, and flavins, are heterocyclic metabolites that often serve as redox-active cofactors.

Nostophycin Biosynthesis Is Directed by a Hybrid Polyketide Synthase-Nonribosomal Peptide Synthetase in the Toxic Cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. Strain 152

open access: yes, 2011
Cyanobacteria are a rich source of natural products with interesting pharmaceutical properties. Here, we report the identification, sequencing, annotation, and biochemical analysis of the nostophycin ( npn ) biosynthetic gene ...

Actinomycin Analogs From Streptomyces polyantibioticus S4D258: Structural Elucidation and Antiproliferative Activity Against Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2026.
Fifteen new actinomycin analogs, named actinomycins H1–H15, are identified from S. polyantibioticus S4D258. Actinomycins H7–H15 are truncated actinomycin analogs. Actinomycins H1–H6 and H9 exhibit significant antiproliferative activities against both MDA‐MB‐231 and 4T1 TNBC cells.

Enniatin and Beauvericin Biosynthesis in Fusarium Species: Production Profiles and Structural Determinant Prediction

open access: yesToxins, 2017
Members of the fungal genus Fusarium can produce numerous secondary metabolites, including the nonribosomal mycotoxins beauvericin (BEA) and enniatins (ENNs).

Cyanopeptide Mixtures Induce Variable Synergistic and Antagonistic Effects Across Diverse Human Cell Lines

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, Volume 41, Issue 10, Page 807-821, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) threaten human, animal, and ecosystem health and safety through production of toxic secondary metabolites. Microcystis, a cosmopolitan bloom‐forming cyanobacterial genus, is well‐known for producing hepatotoxic microcystins (MCs), but it can produce many other bioactive cyanopeptides, such as ...

Bacillaceae Within Galium aparine L.: A Plant‐Associated Treasure of Biosynthetic Diversity and Growth‐Promoting Potential

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
The study involved 10 strains of endophytic bacteria isolated for the first time from G. aparine L., including two putatively novel strains from Bacillus and Priestia spp. Bioactivity screening revealed production of a plethora of industrially‐relevant compounds and possible use of those bacteria as biostimulants.

A nonribosomal peptide synthetase (Pes1) confers protection against oxidative stress in Aspergillus fumigatus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Aspergillus fumigatus is an important human fungal pathogen. The Aspergillus fumigatus genome contains 14 nonribosomal peptide synthetase genes, potentially responsible for generating metabolites that contribute to organismal virulence.

Caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from the bioluminescent fungus Neonothopanus gardneri is the key recycling enzyme in the fungal bioluminescence pathway

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 20, Page 6022-6037, October 2026.
Caffeic acid is a central metabolite in the fungal bioluminescence pathway. We identified and characterized caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from Neonothopanus gardneri (ngarCPH) and demonstrate its ability to hydrolyze fungal oxyluciferin into caffeic and pyruvic acids, confirming a complete and self‐sustained fungal bioluminescence cycle.

Synthesis of Glycopeptide Antibiotic Peptide Substrates Using Knorr‐Pyrazole Chemistry

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 17, 14 September 2026.
The glycopeptide antibiotics (GPAs) are important clinical antibiotics. While chemoenzymatic synthesis of more hydrophilic GPAs like vancomycin has aided our understanding of GPA crosslinking, hydrophobic GPAs remain underexplored. Here, we show that modified Knorr‐pyrazole chemistry improves access to hydrophobic peptidyl‐CoAs, with such substrates ...
