Validation of control genes and a standardised protocol for quantifying gene expression in the livers of C57BL/6 and ApoE−/− mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The liver plays a critical role in food and drug metabolism and detoxification and accordingly influences systemic body homeostasis in health and disease.

Circulating hsa‐miR‐29c‐3p and VEGF‐A levels predict the response to FOLFIRI plus aflibercept in elderly metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients who progress on oxaliplatin‐based chemotherapy benefit from second‐line treatment with FOLFIRI plus aflibercept. However, the absence of validated biomarkers for antiangiogenic therapies remains a challenge. Circulating levels of VEGF‐A and 13 miRNAs were analysed in 154 elderly mCRC patients.

Testing reference genes for transcript profiling in Uromyces appendiculatus during urediospore infection of common bean.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Uromyces appendiculatus is a major pathogen on common bean. Like other rust fungi, it uses effectors to influence its host plant. Effectors are assumed to possess characteristic expression profiles, reflecting their activity during the infection process.

Identification and evaluation of suitable reference genes for gene expression studies in the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Asia I) by reverse transcription quantitative realtime PCR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study presents a reliable method for performing reverse transcription quantitative realtime PCR (RT-qPCR) to measure gene expression in the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Asia I) (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), utilising suitable reference genes for

Effects of Corn Fermented Protein as a Primary Protein Source on Growth Performance, Feed Utilization Efficiency, Hemolymph Biochemical Parameters, and Physiological and Digestive Gene Expression of Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study aimed to determine the effect of replacing fish meal (FM), soybean meal (SBM), and corn protein concentrate (CPC) in an equal ratio with corn fermented protein (CFP) on Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei growth, feed utilization efficiency, hemolymph parameters, and physiological gene expression.

Felis catus papillomavirus type 2 infection and skin cancer in domestic cats : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary Science at Massey University, Manawatū, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Felis catus papillomavirus type 2 (FcaPV-2) is a virus which commonly infects the skin of domestic cats. While most infections are asymptomatic, there is growing evidence that FcaPV-2 may play a role in the development of a subset of feline cutaneous ...

Identification of Importin 8 (IPO8) as the most accurate reference gene for the clinicopathological analysis of lung specimens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: The accurate normalization of differentially expressed genes in lung cancer is essential for the identification of novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers by real time RT-PCR and microarrays.

Comparative Expression Analysis of Olfactory Receptor Genes Among Individuals With Soldier and Worker Caste Differentiation Fates in Termites

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
We investigated the role of chemosensory gene expression in caste differentiation of the damp‐wood termite Zootermopsis nevadensis. Gene expression analyses revealed that third‐instar larvae destined to become workers exhibited significantly higher expression of key olfactory receptor genes in their antennae, suggesting that differences in chemosensory

Reference gene validation for qPCR in rat carotid body during postnatal development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background The carotid bodies are the main arterial oxygen chemoreceptors in mammals. Afferent neural output from the carotid bodies to brainstem respiratory and cardiovascular nuclei provides tonic input and mediates important protective responses to ...

Integrative miRNOMe profiling reveals the miR‐195‐5p–CHEK1 axis and its impact on luminal breast cancer outcomes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 11, Page 3409-3426, November 2025.
In luminal (ER+) breast carcinoma (BC), miRNA profiling identified miR‐195‐5p as a key regulator of proliferation that targets CHEK1, CDC25A, and CCNE1. High CHEK1 expression correlates with worse relapse‐free survival after chemotherapy, especially in patients with luminal A subtype.
