The nuclear envelope and nuclear pore complexes in neurodegenerative diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
The nuclear envelope (NE) and nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) play a critical role in maintaining the balance between the nucleus and cytoplasm, which is essential for the structural integrity and gene regulatory functions of eukaryotic cells.

Variation in the nuclear effects of infection by different human rhinovirus serotypes.

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Human rhinovirus (HRV) is a positive sense RNA virus, which, despite replicating in the cytoplasm, has a significant impact on nuclear transport and nuclear localisation of host proteins.

Herpes simplex virus ICP27 protein directly interacts with the nuclear pore complex through NUP62, inhibiting host nucleocytoplasmic transport pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The herpes simplex virus ICP27 protein is important for the expression and nuclear export of viral mRNAs. Although several binding sites have been mapped along the ICP27 sequence for various RNA and protein partners including the transport receptor TAP ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Modeling Uranium Transport in Koongarra, Australia: The Effect of a Moving Weathering Zone

open access: yes, 2001
Natural analogues are an important source of long-term data and may be viewed as naturally occurring experiments that often include processes, phenomena, and scenarios that are important to nuclear waste disposal safety assessment studies.

Spins, disorder and interactions in GaAs and graphene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis describes experiments on semiconductor spin physics under the influence of diverse disorder and carrier-carrier interaction. Motivated by recent observations of GaAs spin qubit coherence limited by hyperfine coupling to nuclear-spin en ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
