Betaine homocysteine S-methyltransferase emerges as a new player of the nuclear methionine cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The paradigm of a cytoplasmic methionine cycle synthesizing/eliminating metabolites that are transported into/out of the nucleus as required has been challenged by detection of significant nuclear levels of several enzymes of this pathway.

NUDT21‐mediated Alternative Polyadenylation of CDK19 Reprograms Cholesterol Biosynthesis to Drive Colorectal Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 7, 3 February 2026.
NUDT21 is overexpressed in colorectal cancer tumors and promotes colorectal cancer progression. NUDT21 promotes the production of a cyclin‐dependent kinase 19 (CDK19) mRNA isoform with a long 3′ UTR, which enhances cytoplasmic export and translation. Truncation of the CDK19 long 3′ UTR phenocopies NUDT21 loss, recapitulating the defects in cholesterol ...

Evidence for an evolutionary relationship between the large adaptor nucleoporin Nup192 and karyopherins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Nucleocytoplasmic transport is facilitated by nuclear pore complexes (NPCs), which are massive proteinaceous transport channels embedded in the nuclear envelope.

Diversity in Nucleocytoplasmic Transport Pathways.

open access: yesCell Structure and Function, 2000
Significant progress has been made toward our understanding of the basic principle of nucleocytoplasmic transport, and the structure of transport factors, as well as the diversity of nucleocytoplasmic transport pathways. This review outlines the current knowledge of transport, and discusses the problems that remain as to how eukaryotic cells acquire ...

Climate change and the antinutrient–antioxidant puzzle in common bean seeds

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 3, Page 1451-1456, February 2026.
Abstract Non‐proteinaceous and proteinaceous antinutrients in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seeds can negatively affect human nutrition by reducing mineral bioavailability and impairing protein digestibility during digestion, respectively. However, many of these compounds also possess strong antioxidant properties that can help protect the plant ...

State‐of‐the‐Art Strategies for Circular RNA in Cancers: Opportunity and Challenge

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
Overview of circular RNA in tumors. ABSTRACT Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are characterized by their covalently closed structure, remarkable stability, and precise spatiotemporal regulation, evolving from once‐overlooked transcriptional byproducts to pivotal molecular regulators.

Diversity, Function and Activity of DNA Viruses in the Qiangyong Proglacial Lake Sediment, the Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study identified DNA viruses from Qiangyong proglacial lake sediments on the Tibetan Plateau, revealing a highly diverse and previously uncharacterized viral community. These viruses influence microbial community structure and function by infecting key nutrient‐transforming taxa and encoding auxiliary metabolic genes that modulate host metabolism.

Modulation of actin polymerization affects nucleocytoplasmic transport in multiple forms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease of unknown etiology. Although defects in nucleocytoplasmic transport (NCT) may be central to the pathogenesis of ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases, the molecular mechanisms ...
