As signalling molecules, bile acids (BAs) can affect metabolism, but due to detergent-like properties, BA levels must be tightly regulated. Here, Kim et al.show that RanBP2, a nucleoporin, maintains BA homoeostasis through SUMOylation of Small ...

Control of yeast retrotransposons mediated through nucleoporin evolution. [PDF]
Yeasts serve as hosts to several types of genetic parasites. Few studies have addressed the evolutionary trajectory of yeast genes that control the stable co-existence of these parasites with their host cell.

Targeting CRM1 for Progeria Syndrome Therapy
Pharmacological inhibition of CRM1 mediated by selinexor, the first‐in‐class selective inhibitor of CRM1, mitigates the senescent phenotype of Hutchinson‐Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) patients‐derived primary fibroblasts. Treatment of HGPS fibroblasts with selinexor promotes the clearances of progerin via autophagy activation, restores the ...

Structure‐guided insights into the biology of fungal effectors
Summary Phytopathogenic fungi cause enormous yield losses in many crops, threatening both agricultural production and global food security. To infect plants, they secrete effectors targeting various cellular processes in the host. Putative effector genes are numerous in fungal genomes, and they generally encode proteins with no sequence homology to ...

NAMPT delivered by metastatic HCC cells‐derived sEV upregulates SLC27A4 expression via TLR4/NF‐кB dependent pathway. SLC27A4 acts as an acyl‐CoA synthetase and increases the level of intracellular TG, leading to DHAP‐mediated transition between lipogenesis and glycolysis.

Genetic Loci Influencing Cue‐Reactivity in Heterogeneous Stock Rats
A genome‐wide association study characterizing individual differences in cue‐reactivity (sign‐tracking; A) identifies multiple genetic loci, particularly on chromosomes 1 and 18 (B). Multiple candidate genes in these regions were identified, including those with known psychiatric relevance (e.g., Tenm4; C) and novel candidates with heritable ...

Compensation for chronic oxidative stress in ALADIN null mice
Mutations in the AAAS gene coding for the nuclear pore complex protein ALADIN lead to the autosomal recessive disorder triple A syndrome. Triple A patients present with a characteristic phenotype including alacrima, achalasia and adrenal insufficiency ...

Mitotic Phosphorylation of Nucleoporins: Dismantling NPCs and Beyond [PDF]
Recently reporting in Cell, Laurell et al. (2011) demonstrate that the hyperphosphorylation of vertebrate Nup98 by distinct mitotic kinases contributes to its release from nuclear pores, drives nuclear envelope permeabilization, and may provide a molecular switch coordinating nuclear envelope breakdown and spindle formation.

Outsourcing the Nucleus: Nuclear Pore Complex Genes are no Longer Encoded in Nucleomorph Genomes
The nuclear pore complex (NPC) facilitates transport between nucleus and cytoplasm. The protein constituents of the NPC, termed nucleoporins (Nups), are conserved across a wide diversity of eukaryotes.
