In vitro data indicates that the kidney proximal tubule (PT) transporters of uremic toxins and solutes (e.g., indoxyl sulfate, p-cresol sulfate, kynurenine, creatinine, urate) include two “drug” transporters of the organic anion transporter (OAT) family:

Indoxyl sulfate (IS) accumulates in the body in chronic kidney disease (CKD). In the renal proximal tubules, IS excretion is mediated by OAT1/3 and ABCG2. These transporters are inhibited by some hypouricemic agents; OATs by probenecid and benzbromarone,

Activation of Protein Kinase Cζ Increases OAT1 (SLC22A6)- and OAT3 (SLC22A8)-mediated Transport [PDF]
Organic anion transporters (OATs) play a pivotal role in the clearance of small organic anions by the kidney, yet little is known about how their activity is regulated. A yeast two-hybrid assay was used to identify putative OAT3-associated proteins in the kidney. Atypical protein kinase Czeta (PKCzeta) was shown to bind to OAT3.

Potential Interaction of Pinocembrin with Drug Transporters and Hepatic Drug-Metabolizing Enzymes
Background/Objectives: Pinocembrin is a promising drug candidate for treating ischemic stroke. The interaction of pinocembrin with drug transporters and drug-metabolizing enzymes is not fully revealed.

Specific interactions leading to transgressive overyielding in cover crop mixtures [PDF]
Growing mixtures of species instead of sole crops is expected to increase the ecosystem services provided by cover crops. This study aimed at understanding the interactions between species and investigating how they affect the performance of the mixture.

Establishment of a novel cynomolgus monkey model of hyperuricemia
We established a novel hyperuricemia model in cynomolgus monkeys (A) via oral administration of potassium oxonate, hydrochlorothiazide, and adenine mixed in fruits and vegetables. This model (B) targets uric acid synthesis and enzymatic degradation, and (C) regulates renal and intestinal excretion, thereby stably elevating serum uric acid and serving ...

A consensus statement on the renal monitoring of Australian patients receiving tenofovir based antiviral therapy for HIV/HBV infection [PDF]
A number of antiviral agents used against Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and hepatitis B virus (HBV) mono or co-infection have been associated with real nephrotoxicity (including tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), atazanavir, indinavir ...

Proton block and voltage gating are potassium-dependent in the cardiac leak channel Kcnk3. [PDF]
Potassium leak conductances were recently revealed to exist as independent molecular entities. Here, the genomic structure, cardiac localization, and biophysical properties of a murine example are considered.
