Chemoprevention of Carcinogenesis by Organoselenium Compounds.

open access: yesJournal of Health Science, 2000
The modifying effects of novel synthesized oragnoseleniums on carcinogenesis have been examined in several organs. p-Methoxybenzeneselenol (MBS), benzylselenocyanate (BSC) and 1, 4-phenylenebis(methylene)-selenocyanate (p-XSC) have been synthesized, respectively.

Nitric Oxide‐Generating Poly (allylamine hydrochloride) Coating on Biomedical Titanium Implant

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 10, 19 May 2026.
We report a metal‐free, nitric oxide (NO)‐generating coating in which poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) is covalently immobilized onto titanium. The coating catalyzes NO generation from the endogenous S‐nitrosothiol GSNO, retains activity after multiple reuse cycles and pH exposures, and maintains endothelial cell viability while modulating ...

Synthesis of Selenium-Based Small Molecules Inspired by CNS-Targeting Psychotropic Drugs and Mediators

open access: yesChemistry, 2023
Due to its endogenously high oxygen consumption, the central nervous system (CNS) is vulnerable to oxidative stress conditions. Notably, the activity of several CNS-targeting compounds, such as antidepressant and hypnotic drugs, or endogenous mediators ...

Discovery of new organoselenium compounds as antileishmanial agents [PDF]

open access: yesBioorganic Chemistry, 2019
We report new organoselenium compounds bearing the sulfonamide moiety as effective inhibitors of the β-isoform of Carbonic Anhydrase from the unicellular parasitic protozoan L. donovani chagasi. All derivatives were evaluated in vitro for their leishmanicidal activities against Leishmania infantum amastigotes along with their cytotoxicities in human ...

Diselenide‐Catalyzed Asymmetric Allenylation of Alkynes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 11, 16 March 2026.
An asymmetric allenylation of alkynes is described using chiral lactamides‐based diselenides under oxidative conditions. This led to the corresponding allenylamides with enantiomeric excesses up to 72%, and uncovers an interesting stereodivergency feature related to the β‐H‐syn‐elimination of transient Se(IV) intermediates.

Organoselenium compounds as mimics of selenoproteins and thiol modifier agents

open access: yes, 2017
Here, we critically review the literature on the capacity of organoselenium compounds to mimic selenoproteins (particularly GPx) and discuss some of the bottlenecks in the field.
