A comparative study on arginine metabolism by oral streptococci revealed both divergence and heterogeneity in dependence on arginine and significance of ornithine and citrulline [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Oral Microbiology
Background Current understanding in arginine metabolism by streptococci is limited in species and strains. Objectives We compared the ability of several abundant oral streptococci to synthesize and assimilate arginine.Design Multiple species of oral ...

The reaction of ornithine aminotransferase with ornithine [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1982
Rat liver ornithine aminotransferase is found to exchange the pro-S hydrogen on the delta-carbon atom of ornithine exclusively, thus showing that the mammalian enzyme transfers the delta-amino group and not the alpha-amino group as has been demonstrated with the plant enzyme [Mestichelli, Gupta & Spenser (1979) J. Biol. Chem. 254, 640-647].

Plasma urea cycle metabolite levels and the risk of moyamoya disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2023
Background and purposeUrea cycle metabolites are expected to be the biomarkers for cerebrovascular diseases. However, the effects of circulating urea cycle metabolites on the risk of MMD and its subcategories remain unclear.

Fatty Acyl Esters of Hydroxy Fatty Acid (FAHFA) Lipid Families

open access: yesMetabolites, 2020
Fatty Acyl esters of Hydroxy Fatty Acids (FAHFA) encompass three different lipid families which have incorrectly been classified as wax esters. These families include (i) Branched-chain FAHFAs, involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism and ...

Urea Cycle and Arginine Metabolic Changes in COVID-19 Patients

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2023
Aim:Metabolic changes begin after the invasion of an infectious microorganism and continue to develop as a series of interrelated events. Arginine is important in infectious diseases due to lymphocyte proliferation, nitricoxide production by macrophages,

Functional Analysis of Feedback Inhibition-Insensitive Variants of N-Acetyl Glutamate Kinase Found in Sake Yeast Mutants with Ornithine Overproduction

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, N-acetyl glutamate kinase (NAGK), which catalyzes the phosphorylation of N-acetyl glutamate to form N-acetyl glutamyl-5-phosphate, is one of the rate-limiting enzymes in the ornithine and arginine biosynthetic ...

Differential Input from the Amygdaloid Body to the Ventromedial Hypothalamic Nucleus in the Rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Differential amygdaloid afferents to anterior dorsal, anterior ventral, posterior dorsal and posterior ventral subdivisions of the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMH) were studied by means of retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP ...
