Regulation of Ornithine Decarboxylase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2006
Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) initiates the polyamine biosynthetic pathway. The amount of ODC is altered in response to many growth factors, oncogenes, and tumor promoters and to changes in polyamine levels. Susceptibility to tumor development is increased in transgenic mice expressing high levels of ODC and is decreased in mice with reduced ODC due to

Ornithine carbamyl transferase in Reye's syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Serum levels of ornithine carbamyl transferase activities were determined in the acutely ill and convalescent Reye's syndrome patients and in their parents.

Synthesis of a Borrelia burgdorferi-Derived Muropeptide Standard Fragment Library

open access: yesMolecules
The interplay between the human innate immune system and bacterial cell wall components is pivotal in understanding diseases such as Crohn’s disease and Lyme arthritis.

Modeling non-hereditary mechanisms of Alzheimer disease during apoptosis in yeast

open access: yesMicrobial Cell, 2015
Impaired protein degradation and mitochondrial dysfunction are believed to contribute to neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer disease (AD). In patients suffering from non-hereditary AD, UBB+1, the frameshift variant of ubiquitin B,

Maternal Supplementation with Ornithine Promotes Placental Angiogenesis and Improves Intestinal Development of Suckling Piglets

open access: yesAnimals
The blood vessels of the placenta are crucial for fetal growth. Here, lower vessel density and ornithine (Orn) content were observed in placentae for low-birth-weight fetuses versus normal-birth-weight fetuses at day 75 of gestation. Furthermore, the Orn

Polyamines directly promote antizyme-mediated degradation of ornithine decarboxylase by the proteasome

open access: yes, 2015
Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), a ubiquitin-independent substrate of the proteasome, is a homodimeric protein with a rate-limiting function in polyamine biosynthesis.

Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis for Direct Conversion of L-Ornithine Monohydrochloride to L-Ornithine

open access: yes, 2023
In this study, bipolar membrane electrodialysis was proposed to directly convert L-ornithine monohydrochloride to L-ornithine. The stack configuration was optimized in the BP-A (BP, bipolar membrane; A, anion exchange membrane) configuration with the Cl ...

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

GPRC6A as a novel kokumi receptor responsible for enhanced taste preferences by ornithine

open access: yeseLife
The concept of ‘kokumi’, which refers to an enhanced and more delicious flavor of food, has recently generated considerable interest in food science. However, kokumi has not been well studied in gustatory physiology, and the underlying neuroscientific ...

Behind anticancer molecules: lactoferricin dimeric peptides with fast, selective, persistent and broad-spectrum cytotoxic effect [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Drug Science
Aim: To identify peptides derived from bovine lactoferricin (LfcinB) as potential therapeutics for colon cancer treatment. We systematically modified dimeric peptides to enhance their selectivity against colon cancer cells and reduce toxicity.
