Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Pattern Recognition Receptors and Inflammation [PDF]
Infection of cells by microorganisms activates the inflammatory response. The initial sensing of infection is mediated by innate pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), which include Toll-like receptors, RIG-I-like receptors, NOD-like receptors, and C-type lectin receptors.

Pattern recognition receptors in annelids
Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 2020The existence of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) on immune cells was discussed in 1989 by Charles Janeway, Jr., who proposed a general concept of the ability of PRRs to recognize and bind conserved molecular structures of microorganisms known as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs).

CD14 Is a pattern recognition receptor
Immunity, 1994Septic shock caused by a diverse group of bacterial pathogens is a serious human disease. Recognition of bacterial envelope constituents is one mechanism used by mammalian cells to initiate responses leading to bacterial killing or, unfortunately, responses that also cause fatal septic shock.

Pattern recognition receptors: an update
Expert Review of Clinical Immunology, 2006The vertebrate immune system consists of two inter-related components, the innate and adaptive responses, which are required for the resolution of infection. The innate immune response is critical for the immediate protection from infection and for marshalling the B- and T-cell responses of the adaptive response.

Pattern Recognition Receptors and Liver Failure
Critical Reviews in Immunology, 2019Liver failure is a clinical syndrome with many causes, a complicated pathogenesis, diverse clinical manifestations, and very high mortality. No effective treatment is yet available. Main pathological processes of liver failure include direct damage to parenchymal and nonparenchymal liver cells that might be caused by viruses or drugs, immune-mediated ...

Pattern-recognition Receptors in Pulp Defense
Advances in Dental Research, 2011Initial sensing of infection is mediated by germline-encoded pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs), the activation of which leads to the expression of inflammatory mediators responsible for the elimination of pathogens and infected cells. PRRs act as immune sensors that provide immediate cell responses to pathogen invasion or tissue injury.

Visualising pattern recognition receptor signalling
Biochemical Society Transactions, 2017Signalling by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) is critical for protecting the host against pathogens. Disruption of these signalling pathways has been implicated in many diseases ranging from infection susceptibility to cancer and autoimmune disease.

Identification and functions of pattern-recognition receptors
Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2010Since the identification of Toll-like receptors, our knowledge about pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) has increased rapidly. Classes of PRRs that have been recently discovered include RIG-I-like receptors, Nod-like receptors, and C-type lectin receptors.
