Enterococcus faecalis and Endodontic Treatment Failure: A Qualitative Systematic Review of Its Role and Elimination Strategies

open access: yesAustralian Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to synthesize evidence on the influence of Enterococcus faecalis on endodontic treatment failure and strategies for its elimination. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD420251022741).

Body Image, Food Consumption and Physical Activity Associated With Weight Control Behaviours in Adolescents

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Body dissatisfaction and unhealthy weight control behaviours are common during adolescence. We examined associations between body image, diet, physical activity, and risk behaviours for weight control among high school students. Methods This cross‐sectional study included 802 adolescents from five municipalities in southern Brazil ...

Impact of porcine cytomegalovirus on long-term orthotopic cardiac xenotransplant survival [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Xenotransplantation using pig organs has achieved survival times up to 195 days in pig orthotopic heart transplantation into baboons. Here we demonstrate that in addition to an improved immunosuppressive regimen, non-ischaemic preservation with ...

Gene Therapy and Gene Editing in Type 1 Diabetes: CRISPR‐Based β‐Cell Replacement and Treg Immune Modulation Approaches

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a chronic autoimmune disease marked by the destruction of pancreatic β‐cells, resulting in lifelong dependence on exogenous insulin. Despite advances in insulin delivery and glucose monitoring technologies, patients remain at risk for acute and long‐term complications, underscoring the need for ...

Distribution and expression of porcine endogenous retroviruses in multi-transgenic pigs generated for xenotransplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Multi-transgenic pigs produced for use in xenotransplantation have to be screened for the presence and expression of porcine endogenous retroviruses (PERV) to select animals with low PERV load.

Isolation and characterization of PERV-C env from domestic pig in Korea.

open access: yesJournal of microbiology and biotechnology, 2009
Clone PERV-C (A3) env was isolated from the genomic DNA of domestic pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) in Korea to investigate the molecular properties of PERV-C. The nucleic acid homologies between the PERV-MSL (type C) reference and the PERV-C(A3) clone was 99% for env, but a single base pair deletion was found in the transmembrane (TM) region of the env ...

To Grandmother's House We Go: Informal Childcare and Female Labor Mobility

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We document how childcare costs and the location of extended family influence the labor supply and mobility of US women. Women return to their home locations immediately before fertility events, suggesting that informal childcare needs may motivate home migration. Women who live near their parents have lower child earnings penalties.

Collaborative platooning and routing for mixed fleets of electric automated vehicles and conventional trucks

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract The application of automated ground vehicles (AGVs) is well‐established in closed environments such as port terminals, while their operation in open areas remains challenging. In this work, we set out to overcome this limitation by introducing platooning as a transfer mode in heterogeneous vehicle networks.

Screening for porcine endogenous retrovirus - C (PERV-C) in pigs

open access: yes
Abstract Porcine endogenous retrovirus C (PERV-C) is a gammaretrovirus present in the genome of many, but not all pigs. PERV-C is an ecotropic virus, able to infect only pig cells. In contrast, PERV-A and PERV-B are present in all pigs, they can infect cells of numerous host species including humans, and therefore pose a risk for ...
