Lysogeny and Phage Resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
SummaryWhen 95 strains of Ps. aeruginosa were assayed for lysogenicity on a series of indicator strains, all bacteria were found to be lysogenic. From the patterns of lysogenicity obtained with respect to the indicators we conclude that the majority of the 95 strains tested were lysogenic for more than one bacteriophage.

Phage-Resistant Bacteria Reveal a Role for Potassium in Root Colonization [PDF]
Bacteriophage predation is an important factor in bacterial community dynamics and evolution. Phage-bacterium interaction has mainly been studied in lab cultures, while dynamics in natural habitats, and especially in the plant root niche, are underexplored.

Phage therapy is the use of bacterial viruses as antibacterial agents. A primary consideration for commercial development of phages for phage therapy is the number of different bacterial strains that are successfully targeted, as this defines the breadth

A Study of Phage-Resistant Mutants of Rhizobium trifolii [PDF]
SUMMARY: Phage-resistant mutants were obtained from four strains of Rhizobium trifolii. Mutation to phage resistance tended to coincide with mutations in other features, such as morphology of colonies or effectiveness in nitrogen fixation. The accompanying mutations occurred independently, and their frequency varied widely from strain to strain.

Molecular Basis for Lytic Bacteriophage Resistance in Enterococci
The human intestine harbors diverse communities of bacteria and bacteriophages. Given the specificity of phages for their bacterial hosts, there is growing interest in using phage therapies to combat the rising incidence of multidrug-resistant bacterial ...

Ecological memory preserves phage resistance mechanisms in bacteria [PDF]
Defense mechanisms against pathogens are prevalent in nature, and their maintenance is critical for long-term survival of a species. Such mechanisms, which include CRISPR-mediated immunity in bacteria and the R genes in plants, carry substantial costs to organisms and can be rapidly lost when pathogens are eliminated.

The increase in multi drug resistance (MDR) amongst food-borne pathogens such as Escherichia coli O157:H7, coupled with the upsurge of food-borne infections caused by these pathogens is a major public health concern. Lytic phages have been employed as an
