Phenotypic heterogeneity and genetic mechanisms of phage resistance in hypervirulent carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae [PDF]

Virulence
Phage resistance represents a major obstacle to the clinical application of phage therapy for multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens. A comprehensive understanding of the phenotypic heterogeneity and molecular mechanisms underlying phage resistance is ...

Investigating the phenotypic alterations associated with hypermucoviscous hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae during phage resistance development [PDF]

BMC Microbiology
Phage therapy has been explored and used compassionately in the post-antibiotic era, though phage resistance might pose a serious challenge. The advent of hypervirulent and hypermucoviscous traits in Klebsiella pneumoniae limits therapeutic choices. This

Biocontrol of Phage Resistance in Pseudomonas Infections: Insights into Directed Breaking of Spontaneous Evolutionary Selection in Phage Therapy [PDF]

Viruses
Phage therapy, long overshadowed by antibiotics in Western medicine, has a well-established history in some Eastern European countries and is now being revitalized as a promising strategy against antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Adapting a Phage to Combat Phage Resistance

Antibiotics, 2020
Phage therapy is becoming a widely recognized alternative for fighting pathogenic bacteria due to increasing antibiotic resistance problems. However, one of the common concerns related to the use of phages is the evolution of bacterial resistance against

Overcoming phage resistance: efficacy of sequential phage-colistin therapy against carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii [PDF]

Microbiology Spectrum
Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) is a major public health threat due to high mortality and limited treatment options. Bacteriophage (phage) therapy offers a promising alternative, but its long-term efficacy is challenged by the rapid ...

Multisite binding of bacteriophages on lipopolysaccharides in Escherichia coli O157:H7 and the adaptive costs of phage resistance [PDF]

Microbiology Spectrum
Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 is a major foodborne pathogen and a critical global food safety concern. Bacteriophage (phage) therapy offers a promising, highly specific biological alternative to antibiotic treatment.

Insertion sequence-mediated phage resistance contributes to attenuated colonization of cytolytic Enterococcus faecalis variants in the gut [PDF]

Microbiology Spectrum
Specific elimination of cytolytic Enterococcus faecalis from the intestinal microbiota by bacteriophages (phages) attenuates ethanol-induced liver disease in pre-clinical studies; however, other clinical phage therapy studies have reported the occurrence
