Mammalian mitophagy – from in vitro molecules to in vivo models [PDF]
The autophagic turnover of mitochondria, termed mitophagy, is thought to play an essential role in not only maintaining the health of the mitochondrial network, but also that of the cell and organism as a whole. We have come a long way in identifying the

Background Metastasis is the predominant cause of mortality in patients with breast cancer. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to drive important phenotypes in tumors, including invasion and metastasis.

Non-polyadenylated transcription in embryonic stem cells reveals novel non-coding RNA related to pluripotency and differentiation [PDF]
The transcriptional landscape in embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and during ESC differentiation has received considerable attention, albeit mostly confined to the polyadenylated fraction of RNA, whereas the non-polyadenylated (NPA) fraction remained largely ...

Rare Earth Elements are known to form tri‐ and also di‐valent compounds. A few tetra‐valent compounds are also known, and recently the first molecules and crystals with Praseodymium(+5) were synthesized. By defining the atomic Ionization Quotient IQ, Ln(+4) compounds with suitable ligands appear possible for almost all 4f elements, while Pr(+5) may ...

Mitochondrial Adaptation to Mechanical Stress in Cardiac Ageing and Disease
Mechanical forces shape the heart's energy factories. This review explores how mitochondria in cardiac cells sense and respond to biomechanical stress, altering their structure, positioning, and metabolism. By linking mechanical cues to mitochondrial adaptation, the article highlights pathways driving heart disease and points to new strategies for ...

HUWE1 E3 ligase promotes PINK1/PARKINindependent mitophagy by regulating AMBRA1 activation via IKKa [PDF]
The selective removal of undesired or damaged mitochondria by autophagy, known as mitophagy, is crucial for cellular homoeostasis, and prevents tumour diffusion, neurodegeneration and ageing.

Cardiac fibrosis is a pathological process of multiple cardiovascular diseases, which may lead to heart failure. Studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical roles in regulating mitophagy and cardiac fibrosis. We found that miR-24-3p expression was significantly downregulated in transverse aortic constriction (TAC) mice and cardiac ...

Nestin localizes to the mitochondrial IMS through its MTS and the TOM20 import machinery. Within the mitochondria, Nestin interacts with Mic60 via its C‐terminal Tail3 domain. Loss of mitochondrial Nestin disrupts cristae architecture, leading to mitochondrial swelling, bioenergetic dysfunction, and ultimately the senescence of hMSCs.

Does prohibitin expression regulate sperm mitochondrial membrane potential, sperm motility, and male fertility? [PDF]
Prohibitin (PHB) is a highly conserved major sperm mitochondrial membrane protein whose absence in somatic cells is associated with mitochondrial membrane depolarization and increased generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
