Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Comparative study of phenolic acids from underground parts of Rheum palmatum L., R. rhaponticum L. and R. undulatum L.

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
In three species of Rheum L. genus growing in Poland the composition of phenolic acids was determined. By 2D-TLC method the following acids were identified: ellagic, chlorogenic, gallic, protocatechuic, homoprotocatechuic, caffeic, α-resorcilic, p ...

Comparative evaluation of phytochemical profiles and identification of flavonoids in cereal grains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The phytochemicals including flavonoids and phenolic acids mainly contained in the outer layer of the kernels are key factors responsible for the biofunctionality of whole grains.

Phenolic metabolites of anthocyanins following a dietary intervention study in post-menopausal women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Scope Numerous studies feeding anthocyanin-rich foods report limited bioavailability of the parent anthocyanins. The present study explores the identity and concentration of the phenolic metabolites of anthocyanins in humans.

Soil acidification in continuously cropped tobacco alters bacterial community structure and diversity via the accumulation of phenolic acids

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Studying the obstacles associated with continuous cropping is necessary for sustainable agricultural production. Phenolic acids play an important role in continuous cropping systems, although their mechanism of action in these systems remains unclear ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Physiological mechanism of improved tolerance of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to lignin-derived phenolic acids in lignocellulosic ethanol fermentation by short-term adaptation

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2019
Background Phenolic acids are lignin-derived fermentation inhibitors formed during many pretreatment processes of lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, vanillic, p-hydroxybenzoic, and syringic acids were selected as the model compounds of phenolic ...
