In Vivo Biosynthesis and Direct Incorporation of Noncanonical Amino Acids into Proteins

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 22, November 17, 2025.
This review evaluates engineered (semi)autonomous cell systems for the biosynthesis and incorporation of noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs) into proteins. While semi‐autonomous cells convert supplied precursors into ncAAs autonomous cells integrate biosynthetic pathways that produce these building blocks intracellularly.

Nitrogen Scavengers: History, Clinical Considerations and Future Prospects

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 48, Issue 6, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Nitrogen scavengers play a critical role in treating acute and chronic hyperammonemia, especially in urea cycle disorders (UCDs), where impaired ammonia detoxification leads to toxic nitrogen accumulation. These agents complement low‐protein diets and urea cycle intermediates.

Application of Bioactive Thermal Proteome Profiling to Decipher the Mechanism of Action of the Lipid Lowering 132-Hydroxy-pheophytin Isolated from a Marine Cyanobacteria

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2019
The acceleration of the process of understanding the pharmacological application of new marine bioactive compounds requires identifying the compound protein targets leading the molecular mechanisms in a living cell.

Overexpression of PSAT1 is Correlated with Poor Prognosis and Immune Infiltration in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark, 2023
Purpose: Current evidence suggests that phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1) is overexpressed in various tumors. Herein, we investigate the significance of PSAT1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its correlation with immune infiltration ...

Effects of the Different Dietary Fish Oil Calcium Salt on Production Performance, Blood Biochemical Parameters, Egg Quality Traits and Yolk Fatty Acid Profile in Laying Hens at Peak Production Period

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
Dietary supplementation with fish oil calcium salt improved laying performance, yolk fatty acid profile and egg quality traits during the peak production period. Higher inclusion levels significantly increased n‐3 PUFA content without negative effects on bird health, while moderate levels (0.75%) optimized performance and productivity.

The phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) inhibitor, 3-mercaptopicolinic acid (3-MPA), induces myogenic differentiation in C2C12 cells

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) is a gluconeogenic enzyme with a cytosolic (Pck1/PEPCK-C) and mitochondrial (Pck2/PEPCK-M) isoform. Here we investigate the effect of 3-mercaptopicolinic acid (3-MPA), a PEPCK inhibitor, on C2C12 muscle cells. We

Predicted functional alterations in colonic microbiota metabolism underlie ethanol consumption and preference behavior in mice

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 49, Issue 11, Page 2436-2450, November 2025.
Using a free‐choice ethanol model, we show that mice switched from a high‐sugar/butter diet to AIN93G standard diet consume and prefer more alcohol than mice maintained on AIN93G. 16S profiling and inferred metabolome revealed reduced amino acid metabolism, increased secondary bile acid pathways, and lower microbiota‐derived SCFAs and selected amino ...

Changes in expression of serine biosynthesis and integrated stress response genes during myogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2019
Skeletal muscle is a highly metabolic and dynamic tissue that is formed through the complex and well-organised process of myogenesis. Although there is a good understanding about the role of the Muscle Regulatory Factors during myogenesis, little is ...

Downregulation of PSAT1 inhibits cell proliferation and migration in uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1) has been associated with the occurrence and development of various carcinomas; however, its function in uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC) is unknown.

Crystallization and preliminary X‐ray analysis of phosphoserine aminotransferase from Bacillus circulans subsp. alkalophilus [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Science, 1996
AbstractRecombinant phosphoserine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.52) from Bacillus circulans subsp. alkalophilus was crystallized at room temperature from 0.1 M sodium acetate buffer, pH 4.6, and 2% PEG 20000, using macroseeding techniques. The crystals diffract X‐rays to at least 2.0 Å nominal resolution.
