Control of cell adhesion and migration by podocalyxin. Implication of Rac1 and Cdc42 [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2013
Podocalyxin (PODXL) is a type I membrane sialomucin, originally described in the epithelial cells (podocytes) of kidney glomeruli. PODXL is also found in extra-renal tissues and in certain aggressive tumors, but its precise pathophysiological role is unknown.

Proteomic and metabolic signatures of female reproductive factors and risk of age‐related ocular diseases: A large prospective cohort study

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
The full editable vector source file of this graphical abstract is uploaded as a supplementary EPS file for typesetting. All elements are copyright‐free. Abstract Age‐related ocular diseases (ARODs), including cataract, primary open‐angle glaucoma (POAG), and age‐related macular degeneration (AMD), are leading causes of vision impairment and exhibit ...

Erythropoietin modulation of podocalyxin and a proposed erythroblast niche

open access: yesBlood, 2007
AbstractEpo's erythropoietic capacity is ascribed largely to its antiapoptotic actions. In part via gene profiling of bone marrow erythroblasts, Epo is now shown to selectively down-modulate the adhesion/migration factors chemokine receptor-4 (Cxcr4) and integrin alpha-4 (Itga4) and to up-modulate growth differentiation factor-3 (Gdf3), oncostatin-M ...

Urinary Podocalyxin and Lupus Nephritis Disease Activity [PDF]

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, 2015
Background: Lupus nephritis (LN) is a common and serious complication in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) andis associated with significant mortality and morbidity of SLE patients. The conventional laboratory markers used in clinicalpractice such as serum complement levels and double-stranded DNA antibodies are unreliable indicators of LN as they ...

Urinary podocyte-associated mRNA profile in various stages of diabetic nephropathy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BACKGROUND: Podocyte injury and subsequent excretion in urine play a crucial role in the pathogenesis and progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Quantification of messenger RNA (mRNA) expression in urinary sediment by real-time PCR is emerging as a ...

Targeting a Tumor-Specific Epitope on Podocalyxin Increases Survival in Human Tumor Preclinical Models

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
Podocalyxin (Podxl) is a CD34-related cell surface sialomucin that is normally highly expressed by adult vascular endothelia and kidney podocytes where it plays a key role in blocking adhesion.

Renal‐vascular axis: unmasking its role in vascular endothelial growth factor‐inhibitor vascular toxicity in cancer patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Vascular toxicity is a growing concern in cancer patients receiving vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor (VEGFi) therapy, posing a significant threat to patient prognosis. While the primary mechanism of VEGFi‐induced vascular toxicity is linked to redox‐sensitive reactions that disrupt vascular tone, leading to hypertension and ...

Modified Huangqi Chifeng Decoction Attenuates Proteinuria by Reducing Podocyte Injury in a Rat Model of Immunoglobulin a Nephropathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
Modified Huangqi Chifeng decoction (MHCD) has been used to reduce proteinuria in immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) for many years. Previously, we have demonstrated its protective role in glomerular mesangial cells.

A Surface‐engineered Microfluidic Device for Antibody‐Mediated Negative Selection of High‐Quality Sperm for Assisted Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 47, 11 June 2026.
This study reports a microfluidic device with a functionalized surface utilizing a polyoxazoline coating and covalently immobilized gold nanoparticles and anti‐phosphatidylserine antibody. The device efficiently eliminates pre‐apoptotic and apoptotic spermatozoa and yields sperm with substantially improved quality and low DNA damage, offering a simple ...

RENAL‐CHIP: Rejection Evaluation via Non‐Invasive Analysis of Circulating Podocytes With Herringbone‐Chip Isolation Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 31, 4 June 2026.
RENAL‐CHIP converts 1 mL of peripheral blood into a biopsy‐equivalent readout of renal‐allograft fate. By magnetic capture and release of donor‐derived circulating podocytes through a herringbone microfluidic chip, 84% capture, 96% release and single‐cell RNA evidence of rejection‐specific immunity are achieved.
