Sustainable Palm Oil Extraction and Trends in the Use of Green Technologies: State‐of‐the‐Art and Future Directions

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Palm oil, which is extracted from the mesocarp of the fruit of the Elaeis guineensis Jacq. palm tree, is the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world. The extraction of this substance typically utilizes the conventional pressing method, a technique that is advantageous due to its low operating cost and simplified process.

Stabilization of PUFA‐Rich Mayonnaise Against Lipid Oxidation: A Review of the Last Three Decades of Research

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mayonnaise, a widely consumed oil‐in‐water emulsion, is highly susceptible to lipid oxidation due to its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and the presence of pro‐oxidant factors such as low pH and iron from egg yolk. Over the past three decades, extensive research has focused on understanding oxidation mechanisms, analytical

STUDIUL ASPECTELOR BIOTEHNOLOGICE DE UTILIZARE A ALGEI ROŞII PORPHYRIDIUM CRUENTUM (Näg) CNM-AR-01 ÎN CALITATE DE SURSĂ DE ACID EICOSAPENTAENOIC

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Moldaviae: Stiinte reale si ale naturii, 2008
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic and arachidonic acids) are investigated for the use of it in food and pharmaceutical industries. Microalgae Porphyridium cruentum CNM-AR-01 strain is one of the potential sources of polyunsaturated fatty ...

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Ursolic Acid Alleviates Orchitis via Modulating Ferroptosis in Peritubular Myoid Cells of Testis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Ursolic acid modulates key ferroptosis‐related pathways in the peritubular myoid cells of the testis in forest musk deer. ABSTRACT Chronic stress adversely affects reproductive health, increasing susceptibility to pathologies such as orchitis. Additionally, the maintenance of iron homeostasis is essential for preserving the function of the testicles ...

Suppression of fatty acid synthase promoter by polyunsaturated fatty acids

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
Dietary polyunsaturated fat is known to suppress expression of fatty acid synthase (FAS), a central enzyme in de novo lipogenesis. The sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) has recently been shown to be involved in this suppression.

Polyunsaturated fats and asthma [PDF]

open access: yesThorax, 2002
The paper by Haby et al on the prevalence and risk factors for asthma in preschool children1 appeared in Australian newspapers under the headline “Fatty diet may double risk of childhood asthma”. But the authors have not logically established their assertion that 17% of the cases of recent asthma in Australian rural children 3–5 years old can be ...
