Novel strategies for the formulation and processing of poorly water-soluble drugs
European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, 2018Low aqueous solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients presents a serious challenge in the development process of new drug products. This article provides an overview on some of the current approaches for the formulation of poorly water-soluble drugs with a special focus on strategies pursued at the Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering of the TU ...

Microcrystals for dissolution rate enhancement of poorly water-soluble drugs
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2003Slight dissolution rates related to poor water-solubility are one of the well-known difficulties to be covered during the development of new drug substances. The poorly water-soluble drug ECU-01, a low molecular enzyme-inhibitor with anti-inflammatory properties for oral administration, shows a poor dissolution rate.

Strategies to Maximize Liposomal Drug Loading for a Poorly Water-soluble Anticancer Drug
Pharmaceutical Research, 2014To develop a liposomal system with high drug loading (DL) for intravenous (i.v.) delivery of a poorly water-soluble basic drug, asulacrine (ASL).A thin-film hydration and extrusion method was used to fabricate the PEGylated liposomal membranes followed by a freeze and thaw process.

Poorly water-soluble drug nanoparticles via solvent evaporation in water-soluble porous polymers
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2013A generic method is described to form poorly water-soluble drug nanoparticles within water-soluble porous polymer by solvent evaporation. The simple dissolution of porous polymer with drug nanoparticles results in stable aqueous drug nanoparticle suspension under the optimized conditions.

Strategies for formulating and delivering poorly water-soluble drugs
Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology, 2015Water solubility is a key parameter in drug formulation since it highly influences drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. In the past decades, the challenge with poorly water soluble drugs has been growing continuously. As a matter of fact, poorly soluble compounds represent 40% of the top 200 oral drugs marketed in the US, 33% of drugs listed in ...
