A Physiological Role for Amyloid Beta Protein: Enhancement of Learning and Memory [PDF]
Amyloid beta protein (A[beta]) is well recognized as having a significant role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The reason for the presence of A[beta] and its physiological role in non-disease states is not clear.

Differential expression and modulation of presenilin-1 and presenilin-2 in neural cell lines
ABSTRACTPresenilin proteins, the catalytic components of the γ-secretase enzyme, play a key role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease primarily by generating amyloid-β peptides. Although often grouped together, Presenilin-1 (PS1) and Presenilin-2 (PS2) are distinct proteins that contribute differently to γ-secretase activity.

Apolipoprotein E4, inhibitory network dysfunction, and Alzheimer's disease. [PDF]
Apolipoprotein (apo) E4 is the major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), increasing risk and decreasing age of disease onset. Many studies have demonstrated the detrimental effects of apoE4 in varying cellular contexts.
