Methodological Challenges for Ablation of BMPR1A in Hypothalamic Tanycytes—A Cautionary Tale

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
Two strategies were used to target BMPR1A in adult hypothalamic tanycytes: (1) inducible Rax‐CreERT2 and (2) AAV‐Dio2‐iCre–mediated recombination. Although robust expression of reporter fluorescence and recombination gel analysis confirmed Cre activity in both models, BMPR1A expression was not reduced in targeted tanycytes.

MicroRNAs are involved in the hypothalamic leptin sensitivity

open access: yesEpigenetics, 2018
The central nervous system monitors modifications in metabolic parameters or hormone levels (leptin) and elicits adaptive responses such as food intake and glucose homeostasis regulation. Particularly, within the hypothalamus, pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)

MicroRNA 375 Mediates the Signaling Pathway of Corticotropin-releasing Factor (CRF) Regulating Pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) Expression by Targeting Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase 8*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2013
Background: MicroRNA 375 (miR-375) is expressed in the pituitary gland, but its functions and the related mechanisms have not been studied. Results: miR-375 mediates the signaling pathway of CRF regulating POMC expression by targeting MAP3K8. Conclusion:

Enteric Nervous System Damage by Food Contaminants: A Pathway to Neurodegeneration?

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The enteric nervous system (ENS), a key component of the gut–brain axis, has emerged as a critical player in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). It is the first neural system exposed to food contaminants (FCs)—a diverse group of ubiquitous toxic compounds fortuitously present in food derived from production, processing, storage, or ...

Gene expression and methylation profiles show the involvement of POMC in primary hyperparathyroidsm

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2022
Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is mainly caused by parathyroid adenoma, which produces excess parathyroid hormones. Its pathogenic mechanisms have not yet been fully understood.

TRP canonical 4 and/or 5 channel inhibition reduces aversion‐ and increases reward‐responding in chronically stressed mice

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 9, Page 2139-2165, May 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Pharmacological inhibition of TRPC4 and/or TRPC5 channels reduces Pavlovian aversion memory in stressed mice and reduces amygdala reactivity to aversion in humans with depression. The aims of this mouse study were to improve understanding of these anxiolytic processes, determine whether there are corrective effects on ...

Tissue-Specific Activity of the Pro-Opiomelanocortin Gene Promoter [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1987
The pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) gene is specifically expressed in corticotroph cells of the anterior pituitary. To define the POMC promoter sequences responsible for tissue-specific expression, we assessed POMC promoter activity by gene transfer into POMC-expressing pituitary tumor cells (AtT-20) and fibroblast L cells.

Time‐Restricted Feeding Alters Behavior in a Sex‐Specific Manner in Mice With Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 8, 27 April 2026.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) alleviates anxiety‐like behavior in male mice with neuropathic pain (NP), but not in females. Upon nerve injury, TRF altered the diurnal expression of transcripts in the hypothalamus. These findings suggest that TRF should be explored as a new therapeutic approach to alleviate the comorbid anxiety in NP.

Cross-talk between metabolism and reproduction: The Role of POMC and SF-1 Neurons

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2012
Energy homeostasis and reproduction need to be tightly coordinated. The mechanisms for this coordinated control are not fully understood. Two subsets of hypothalamic neurons, namely pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons in the arcuate nucleus and ...

Activation of arcuate nucleus glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor-expressing neurons suppresses food intake

open access: yesCell & Bioscience, 2022
Background Central nervous system (CNS) control of metabolism plays a pivotal role in maintaining energy balance. In the brain, Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), encoded by the proglucagon ‘Gcg’ gene, produced in a distinct population of neurons in the ...
