Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

The role of the host—Neutrophil biology

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils) are myeloid cells packed with lysosomal granules (hence also called granulocytes) that contain a formidable antimicrobial arsenal. They are terminally differentiated cells that play a critical role in acute and chronic inflammation, as well as in the resolution of inflammation and wound ...

Molecular pathobiology of scleritis and its therapeutic implications [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Scleritis and other autoimmune diseases are characterized by an imbalance in the levels of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory molecules with the balance tilted more towards the former due to the failure of recognition of self.

Protectins: Their biosynthesis, metabolism and structure-functions

open access: yesBiochemical Pharmacology, 2022
Several lipoxygenase enzymes and cyclooxygenase-2 stereoselectively convert the polyunsaturated fatty acids arachidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and n-3 docosapentaenoic acid into numerous oxygenated products. Biosynthetic pathway studies have shown, during the resolution phase of acute inflammation, that distinct families of ...

Resolvins and Protectins in Inflammation Resolution [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Reviews, 2011
The critical role of inflammatory processes in health and disease has long been recognized,1 yet the detailed molecular mechanisms and biological events that regulate the progression and resolution of inflammation remain of interest. A number of recent investigations have provided strong evidence that the resolution of inflammation is not a passive ...

Lipoxins as biomarkers of lupus and other inflammatory conditions

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2011
Inflammatory events persist in systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) despite the use of anti-inflammatory (both steroidal and non-steroidal) and immunosuppressive drugs leading to delay in the healing/repair process and so tissue/organ damage continues ...

Obesity-Driven Deficiencies of Specialized Pro-resolving Mediators May Drive Adverse Outcomes During SARS-CoV-2 Infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Obesity is a major independent risk factor for increased morbidity and mortality upon infection with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which is responsible for the current coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19).

Docosahexaenoic acid, protectins and dry eye [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care, 2011
To report recent data on the potential role of omega-3 fatty acids, in particular docosahexaenoic acid and its derivatives, in the treatment of dry eye syndrome.Dietary supplementation with polyunsaturated fatty acids yields positive results in the improvement of dry eye signs and symptoms.

Stress during slaughter increases lipid metabolites and decreases oxidative stability of farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) during frozen storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
6 páginas, 1 figura, 3 tablasThe consequences of slaughter on the formation of lipid metabolites and oxidative stability of fish muscle during long term frozen storage (−10 °C) were evaluated using farmed rainbow trout killed by asphyxia in air or ...

Differential Mobility Separation of Leukotrienes and Protectins [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical Chemistry, 2015
Differential mobility spectrometry (DMS) is capable of separating stereoisomeric molecular ions based on their mobility in an oscillating electrical field with an asymmetric waveform. Thus, it is an "orthogonal" technique to chromatography and (tandem) mass spectrometry.
