Blocking of Bacteriophage Receptor Sites by Concanavalin A [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1972
Teichoic acids form part of the bacteriophage receptor sites in the walls of several Gram-positive bacteria (Young, 1967; Coyette & Ghuysen, 1968; Chatterjee, 1969). Concanavalin A interacts with teichoic acids that possess α-linked glucosyl or N-acetyl-glucosaminyl substituents (Archibald & Coapes, 1971; Reeder & Ekstedt, 1971) and so might be ...

Macrophage‐derived MLKL in alcohol‐associated liver disease: Regulation of phagocytosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
EtOH causes leaky gut allowing bacteria and PAMPs into the liver, resulting in hepatic inflammation and injury. We demonstrate that LPS induces STAT1‐mediated expression and phosphorylation of MLKL in macrophages and identify a novel function that myeloid MLKL translocates to phagosomes and lysosomes and regulates phagocytosis, which contributes to the

Cooperative Binding of Concanavalin A to Thymocytes at 4oC and Micro-redistribution of Concanavalin A Receptors [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1976
The mode of binding of 125I-labelled concanavalin A and succinyl-concanavalin A to rat thymocytes at 4 degrees C was investigated. Simultaneously, the free binding sites of the cell-bound lectin molecules were quantified by horseradish peroxidase binding. Concanavalin A showed cooperative binding while succinyl-concanavalin A did not.

Effect of original anticonvulsant ortho-fluoro-benzonal on immune cells functional properties at chronic ethanol intoxication

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry, 2022
Introduction GABAa-receptors proved to be the molecular targets of ethanol on immune and nervous cells, potentiating alcohol influence. ortho-Fluoro-benzonal is known to be a circular urea derivative and an artificial ligand of GABA/BD-receptor and thus

Concanavalin A as a promising lectin-based anti-cancer agent: the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling, 2022
Concanavalin A (ConA), the most studied plant lectin, has been known as a potent anti-neoplastic agent for a long time. Since initial reports on its capacity to kill cancer cells, much attention has been devoted to unveiling the lectin's exact molecular ...

Peripheral Antinociception by Carbamazepine in an Inflammatory Mechanical Hyperalgesia Model in the Rat: a New Target for Carbamazepine?

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2006
.: This study investigated whether carbamazepine could produce local peripheral antinociception in a rat model of inflammatory mechanical hyperalgesia, and whether adenosine receptors are involved. Carbamazepine (100 – 1000 nmol/paw) coadministrated with

Role of myeloid-derived suppressor cells in amelioration of experimental autoimmune hepatitis following activation of TRPV1 receptors by cannabidiol. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are getting increased attention as one of the main regulatory cells of the immune system. They are induced at sites of inflammation and can potently suppress T cell functions.

The Inositol- 1,4,5=Trisphosphate System Is Involved in Rapid Effects of Aldosterone in Human Mononuclear Leukocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
There is increasing evidence for rapid steroid action on electrolyte transport in human mononuclear leukocytes (HML). In HML, aldosterone stimulates the Na+/H+ antiporter within a few minutes. Because a variety of hormones and growth factors activate the
