The Size of Activating and Inhibitory Killer Ig-like Receptor Nanoclusters Is Controlled by the Transmembrane Sequence and Affects Signaling

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Super-resolution microscopy has revealed that immune cell receptors are organized in nanoscale clusters at cell surfaces and immune synapses. However, mechanisms and functions for this nanoscale organization remain unclear. Here, we used super-resolution

Functional Repurposing of Magnetic Nanoparticle‐Assisted Hyperthermia for Immune Cell Labelling and Tracking

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
We propose mild‐MHT protocol for the quick internalization of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) by immune cells. The heat induced by MNPs under alternating magnetic field stimulate MNPs diffusion and cell membrane invagination, accelerating the cellular internalization of MNPs. ABSTRACT Immune cell therapies show promise in hematologic malignancies and are

Donor and host coexpressing KIR ligands promote NK education after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2019
: The rate and extent of natural killer (NK)–cell education after hematopoietic cell transplantation correlates with leukemia control. To study the effect of donor and host HLA on NK-cell reconstitution, single killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor ...

Diving Deeper Into Mechanisms of Acrylamide‐Induced Toxicity: RNA Sequencing Reveals Transcriptomic Alteration and Retrotransposon Expression in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Given the inevitability of human and animal exposure to acrylamide, there is increasing concern regarding its potential health risks. While a number of molecular mechanisms have been proposed, the complexity of acrylamide toxicological pathways and interactions remains incompletely characterized.

Interactions between purinergic receptors and Kir channels in neurovascular coupling

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2010
We previously noted a large overlap in the contributions from adenosine (ADO) and K + ‐ channels in the process of neurovascular coupling (NVC), implying the presence of interactive mechanisms.

Evolution of Killer Cell Ig-Like Receptor (KIR) Genes: Definition of an Orangutan KIR Haplotype Reveals Expansion of Lineage III KIR Associated with the Emergence of MHC-C [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2007
Abstract Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) MHC-C appears less evolved than human HLA-C: Popy-C is not fixed and its alleles encode only one (C1) of the two motifs for killer cell Ig-like receptor (KIR) ligands. To assess the structure and complexity of the orangutan KIR locus, the complete nucleotide sequence of an orangutan KIR haplotype was ...

Adipocyte‐specific NIK depletion enhances energy metabolism and glucose tolerance in mice

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Obesity is associated with reduced energy expenditure and increased hepatic lipid accumulation. This study reveals that loss of NIK in adipocytes stimulates FGF21‐driven expression of thermogenic genes, including UCP1, and mitochondrial uncoupled respiration.
